Course Description: This course is designed to introduce the students to basic knowledge of
Intellectual Property Rights and its various categories. This course provides an insight into the
Patents, Copyright Industrial Designs, Trademark, Plant and its Variety for protection and
Farmer’s right act, and management.

Course objectives
Nurturing Innovation in Agricultural Intellectual Property." Uncover the nuances of IPRs, from
patents to trademarks, tailored for agriculture. Navigate legal landscapes, foster entrepreneurship,
and explore the digital frontier in this short, dynamic course. Harvest a rich blend of knowledge,
innovation, and sustainable practices for the evolving world of agricultural intellectual property.

Theory
Explore the fundamentals of intellectual property rights, tailored to the agricultural sector.
Navigate national and international regulations governing intellectual property in agriculture.
Also, students will learn about fostering creativity, protecting innovations, and cultivating an
entrepreneurial mindset in agriculture.

Introduction to IPR, Types of IPR, Importance for intellectual property right, Contribution of
IPR to national development, Rights against IP. Patentability criteria, Inventions not
patentable, who can apply for patent? Patent Specification, Types of patent applications,
granting of patent, searching a patent, Patent Prosecution.

Unit B

Introduction. Nature of Copyright, Subject-matter, protection requirement in Copyright Law,
Neighboring/Related Rights, Economic and Moral Rights of Authors, Copyright in the Digital
Context, an overview of Copyright protection in India, Forms required, Transfer of Copyright,
Infringement of Copyright, Copyright- fair dealing and remedies, Comparison with Patent and
Copyright.
Definition of a design, Concept of Novelty and Originality; Inclusive and Exclusive Designs;
Functions of Designs, An overview of Designs protection in India, Practical Aspects, Duplicity
of registration, Infringement of Design and remedies for infringement.

Unit C

Meaning and functions of Trademarks, Concept of Distinctiveness and Trademarks registration.
Trademarks- Challenges in Non- Conventional Marks, Infringement of Trademarks and remedies
for infringement, Domain Names disputes and Well-Known Marks, Distinction between Trade
names & Trademarks.
What is a geographical indication? How is a geographical indication protected? Why protect
geographical indications? Introduction, Conditions of protection.

What is a Plant Varity and Protection also Act Farmers Rights Act? How is Plant Varity
protected? Why protect Plant Varity? Introduction, Conditions of protection.

ENT509-1. The student will learn about arthropod pests, rodents, and bird pests and the damage
inflicted by them on cereals, Millets oilseed, and pulses, as well as their management.
ENT509-2. The students will learn to determine insect infestation by different methods and
assessment of losses due to insect pests.
ENT509-3. The students will learn to calculate the doses of insecticides and manage the insect
pests and mites on different crops.
ENT509-4. The students will be able to identify the damage caused by the insect pests under
field conditions.
Skill Outcomes
ENT509-1. The students will be able to suggest management practices to the stakeholders in the
field itself.
