LGBTQ+ stands for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer while the plus

represents other sexual identities that aren’t included in the short acronym . It
encompasses individuals whose sexual orientation or gender identity differs from
the traditional heterosexual norms. Contrary to popular belief, evidence of same-
sex relationships can be found in various ancient civilizations and cultures from all
over the world, from Ancient China to Greece. While some societies had more
tolerant views, others condemned and openly persecuted homosexuals, which
resulted in centuries of shame, suppression and secrecy. In the modern era, from
the 18th to 20th centuries, this discrimination resurged in popularity as
homosexuality was stigmatized as a mental illness while legal punishments and
marginalization became widespread. Then finally the year 1969 saw a pivotal
moment in LGBTQ+ history as a police raid on a gay bar in New York City ignited
public outrage and sparked the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. Through
countless efforts and continued activisms, The LGBTQ+ community, which was
formally established in the 1980s, played a major role in bringing about great
progress, including the legalization of homosexuality and same-sex marriages in
