Job Description

Job Title: Social Media Assistant

Salary Band: Band 1

Working Hours: Full Time – 35 hours per week

(Full time – 32 hours over four days from March 2024 - subject to final approval)

Overall purpose/accountabilities:

Directly managing a variety of projects and day-to-day activities that contribute to the
continuous enhancement of UoSiL digital content. Playing an integral part in the success of
the university.

Working alongside the Marketing Team and developing digital marketing skills to deliver
projects on social media platforms. Running a series of communication projects to increase
participation and engagement from internal and external stakeholders, using the university’s
social media channels. Leading on targeted initiatives and design projects.

Deliver and champion excellent customer service to all stakeholders at all times.

Main duties:

Actively contribute to the smooth running of the day-to-day marketing operations, working
closely with the Marketing Team, including Marketing Manager, Website and Social Media
Coordinator (WSMC), and Video Content Producer (VCP), to support the projects and
activities managed by the team, as well as any other marketing-related tasks.

Provide efficient administrative support to the team across a wide range of tasks, including
creation of digital content on the university’s social media channels.

Work with the WSMC and the marketing team, including Social Media Ambassadors, to
create and implement social content across all the university’s official social media
channels.
Review social media analytics to assess success and recommend improvements for future
content.

Work with the WSMC and Marketing Manager to develop strategies to increase followership
and engagement and manage regular posting schedule of relevant promotions.

Undertake appropriate analysis and research to support the identification of appropriate


opportunities that enhance the marketing team. Making sound recommendations to your
line manager as appropriate.

Create daily reels and stories for the university’s TikTok and Instagram accounts and host
special programmes, such as “Instagram Challenges.”

Work on design platforms such as Canva, to create relevant social post designs.

Monitor and respond to comments and direct messages in a timely manner.

Manage social media engagement during events, such as live graduation ceremonies and
other live posts.

Take photos at relevant events to schedule and publish on relevant social media channels.

Undertake day to day responsibility for the effective delivery of a project/s that will directly
support the continuous enhancement of the university’s digital marketing.

Attend appropriate training on digital marketing systems and platforms.

Undertake administrative and basic office duties, always demonstrating strong attention to
detail and dedication.

Always conduct yourself in a professional manner and ensure compliance with all
appropriate health, safety and environment practices.

Establish and maintain professional relationships with all key stakeholders. Demonstrating
excellent communication and negotiation skills throughout.

Demonstrate time management skills in all areas of your role to ensure the effective and
timely delivery of all your duties and responsibilities.

Promote and encourage the practice of the university’s equality and diversity principles in
contacts with all staff, students and partners and promote corporate values through all
streams of the role.

Essential Qualifications

Graduated from the University of Sunderland in London.

Experience

Previous experience in a role requiring effective social media management skills.

Skills & Attributes

Interest in Marketing as a profession/career path.

Demonstrable IT proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and different digital


platforms, such as Canva and Sprout Social.

Demonstrable administrative skills.

Professional approach to work.

Excellent communication skills that support the development of effective


relationships with key stakeholders.

Exceptional initiative and problem-solving skills.

Ability to work effectively on your own and as part of a wider team.

Ability to work with tight deadlines.
