Scope Lesson Plan Template

Steps:

Warm-up
 Focus students on the topic of the unit. If using iTools, play the warmer DVD and do the
accompanying comprehension and follow-up questions. [Write the topic and any questions
you may ask the students here]
 Focus students on the topic of the vocabulary set by doing the warm-up speaking activity
(exercise 1). Ask them a few check questions to see if they are familiar with any of the
vocabulary. [Write the topic and the questions you will ask the students here]

Presentation
 Elicit the meanings of the vocabulary items you think they know by asking concept
questions and pre-teach any vocabulary the students don’t know: [Write the vocabulary you
expect them to know here]

Practice
 Students complete the tasks in the vocabulary and listening exercises. [Write the types of
vocabulary and listening exercise here, e.g. matching, gapfill]

Production
 Use the Speaking exercise to get students to practise in a personalised speaking activity.

Closure
 Give students the opportunity to feed back on how well they have learnt the lesson.
Encourage them to read the ‘I can …’ statement at the top of the Student Book page and
assess how well they have achieved the lesson objective. Ask students:
If you feel you have done well, raise your hand. On a scale of 1–10, how well have you
done?
Draw the following emoticons on the board and ask students to choose the emoticon that
best suits them.
