Angles of elevation and depression
• An angle of elevation is formed when the line of sight is upward from the horizontal line.
• An angle of depression is formed when the line of sight is downward from the horizontal line.

Exercises
1. The horizontal distance between two buildings is 70 m. The angle of depression of the top of the first
building when seen from the top of the second building is 45°. If the height of the second building is
120 m, find the height of the first building.

2. From a point on the ground 12 ft from the base of a flagpole, the angle of elevation of the top of the
pole
measures 53°. How tall is the flagpole?
