Dow UHPRO: Addressing Unmet Needs

Minimizes cost of downstream processes

• Reduction of brine volume reduces size of downstream processes e.g. evaporator
Lower CAPEX
Lower OPEX (Energy and replacement cost)
Simplifies process
• Smaller or no evaporator
• UHP RO stage complements BW RO and SW RO in upstream stages

Provides a solution
UHPRO provides a comprehensive solution together with other DWPS technology like
Ultrafiltration, Self Cleaning Filters, Ion Exchange Resins, Brackish Water Reverse
Osmosis and Seawater Reverse Osmosis.

Treatment of Cooling Water Blowdown (CWBD)
Challenge
• Removing water from the cooling tower is required to prevent over concentration of salts (cooling water blowdown)
• Primarily in regions where water scarcity regulation requires zero liquid discharge treatment of CWBD to save water and avoid discharge
• CWBD is often saturated with CaSO4, Ca(HCO3)2 and silica
• Downstream evaporation is very CAPEX and OPEX intense
• A pre-concentration step can reduce the cost of evaporation significantly.

Solution
RO, in combination with UHP RO, can

Reuse of a Battery Plant Waste Water
Challenge
• A key raw material for the lithium iron battery industry for cars is ferric sulfate
• Wastewater of battery factories not only contains sulfate but also a high concentration of NH3-N
• Following more and more stringent environmental protection in China, these compounds are strictly banned from discharge which requires
ZLD solutions.
