EVALUATION

Evaluation:
Projects: 30% Audit for BB or
Mid-sem Exam: 30% higher grades only.

End-sem: 40%

Collaboration policy: You may collaborate with others, but do your own project/Assignment

I encourage you to work with classmates on assignments. However, each student must
turn in original work. No copying will be accepted. Students who violate IITB’s Standards
of Conduct for Students will receive an FR as a final grade in this course, will not have the
option to withdraw from the course and will be reported to the Dean of Students Affairs.

PSCAD/EMTDC
A student version of pscad is available for download at https://mycentre.hvdc.ca
(watch the video “How to get the Free version”). Several short tutorial videos are
available on the same website. You can ask me or your TA your PSCAD questions.
You can also use the support request form from within PSCAD. A user forum is
available at bb.pscad.com.

Functions of Power Electronics in Utility Applications

The PE interface facilitates transfer of power from the

source to the load by converting voltages and currents
from one form to another and ensuring capability to Converter
reverse direction of power flow when required.
Source Load
Controller
The main aims in modern PE systems are to
convert electrical energy from one form to
another, i.e. from the source to load with:
– highest efficiency, The primary requirement of the interface is to have
– highest availability high conversion efficiency and power density.
– highest reliability
– lowest cost,
An integral controller is needed for managing the
– smallest size
power transfer process.
– least weight.
