1. The paper consists out of three sections:
Section 1 – Composition/Essay (50)
Section 2 – Transactional Writing (30)
Section 3 – Very short piece (20)

2. Answer ONE question from each section.

3. Begin the answer of each SECTION on a NEW page.

SECTION 1 – COMPOSITION/ESSAY

Write an essay of 250-300 words on ONE of the following topics. Write down the
topic at the top of your essay. Remember to do your planning first. Hand the planning
in with the essay. Staple the planning to the back of your essay.

1.1 My role model

1.2 My three best friends
1.3 An interesting story
1.4 Three things I want to do before I finish with grade 8.
1.5 Friendship is important.

SECTION B –Transactional Writing

Begin the answer to this question on a new page.
Write about 150-200 words about ONE of the following topics:

3.2 Diary
Write in your diary about your worst day in school.

3.3 Newspaper report

Write a newspaper report about something terrible that you have seen or
experienced like a shark attack or a car accident.

3.4 Dialogue
You and your friends are sitting outside on the playgrounds. Write a dialogue in
which you talk about someone that you do not like.

3.5 Informal letter

Write an informal letter to your friend in another school. Tell them how you feel
about your new school.

SECTION C – Very Short Piece
Begin your writing on a new page.
Write 80-100 words about ONE of the following topics.

3.1 Card
You friend is in hospital. Design a “Get well soon card”. Make sure you use the
correct number of words.

3.2 Paragraph
Write a paragraph about sharks or any other animal.

3.3 Poster
Design a poster that advertises Youth Day Celebrations at Langenhoven High
School. Say what will be done, where it will be done, when it will be done and
at what time it will begin. Decorate the poster and advertise some of the
activities that will be presented on the day.

3.4 Poem
Write a poem about your family OR about nature OR about love.
