A. Content Standards
The learners demonstrate understanding of the structure and function of mitochondrion
as the main organelle involved in respiration.
B. Performance Standards
The learners should be able to design and conduct an investigation to provide evidence that
plants can manufacture their own food.
C. Learning Competencies
Differentiate basic features and importance of photosynthesis and respiration
I. Objectives:
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
1. Explain the process of cellular respiration;
2. Make a presentation that summarizes the major steps in cellular respiration. and
3. reflect on the importance of energy in their day-to-day lives.

II. Subject Matter:

A. Topic:
Cellular Respiration

Integration:

With-in Subject Area: Science 8- The one-way flow of energy and the
cycling of materials in an ecosystem.

Across Subject Area: MAPEH 7(Health) - explains the need to select food based
on the nutritional needs during adolescence.

B. References:
Science Learner’s Materials
C .Other learning resources:
Google search, pen and paper, powerpoint, tv monitor

III. Procedure
A. Review

The students are going to answer the True or False activity about
Photosynthesis. (Facial True or False)
B. Priming

There will be a discussion about cellular respiration using the DUCK RACE.

C. Activity
Students will be grouped into three. Each group will perform the activity about
cellular respiration. They are going to choose if they are going to illustrate, write the
process or express the symbol of cellular respiration.

Each group will be graded based on the rubrics below.

D. Analysis
Each representative will present the group’s output in front of the class.
1. What is cellular respiration?
2. Where does cellular respiration occur?
3. What are the products of cellular respiration?
E. Abstraction

1. Some organisms perform photosynthesis to produce energy. Other organisms cannot do

photosynthesis. What can they do in order to generate energy?
2. Animals and other organisms obtain the energy available in carbohydrates through the
process of cellular respiration. What is the purpose of cellular respiration?

F. Application
The students will complete a table that summarizes the major steps in cellular
respiration.

IV. Assessment
Choose the letter of the best answer.
1. In which organelle does the majority of cellular respiration take place?
a. Nucleus
b. Endoplasmic reticulum
c. Mitochondria
d. Golgi apparatus
2. What is the waste product of cellular respiration?
a. Oxygen
b. Carbon dioxide
c. Glucose
d. Water
3. What is the chemical formula of Glucose
a. C6H 12 O6
b. H2O
c. O2
d. C6H 6 O6
4. What is the meaning of ATP?
a. adenosine triphosphate
b. ademorol triphosphate
c. adenosine triangle
d. adenosine tiopospane
5. What is the main source of energy on earth?
a. plants
b. water
c. air
d. sun
