the reaction, also balance the equation where needed.
(a) Mg + CuSO4 → MgSO4 + Cu (b) Cu+ AgNO3 → Cu(NO3)2 + Ag
2. a) Identify the compound X on the basis of the reactions given below. Also, write the name and
chemical formulae of A, B and C.

b) You are provided with two containers made up of copper and aluminium. You are also provided
with solutions of dilute HCl, dilute HNO3, ZnCl2 and H2O respectively. In which of the above
containers these solutions can be kept respectively?
3. a) What type of chemical reaction are represented by the following equations?
(a) A+BC→ AC+B (b) A+B→C (c) X →Y+Z (d) PQ+RS→PS+RQ
b) What will happen to ferrous sulphate when heated strongly?
4. Write the balanced chemical equation for the following and identify the type of reaction in each
case:
(a) KBr(aq) + BaCl2(aq) → KCl(aq) + BaBr(s)
(b) ZnCO3(s) → ZnO(s) + CO2(g)
(c) H2(g) + Cl2(g) → HCl(g)
(d) Mg(s) + HCl(aq) → MgCl2(aq) + H2(g)
5. (a) What is meant by the reactivity series of metals? Arrange the following metals in an increasing
order of their reactivities towards water: Zinc, Iron, Magnesium, Sodium
(b) Hydrogen is not a metal but still it has been assigned a place in the reactivity series of metals.
Why?
(c) Name one metal more reactive and another less reactive than hydrogen.
(d) Name one metal which displaces copper from copper sulphate solution and one which does not.
(e) Name one metal which displaces silver from silver nitrate solution and one which does not.
6. Observe the given figure and answer the following questions.
(i) Write the complete balanced reaction for the
above.
(ii) Type of reaction involved.
(iii) Is there any precipitate formed?
(iv) If any precipitate formed, write the colour of
the precipitate
(V)What is the formula of the precipitate?

7. A strip of metal X is dipped in a blue coloured salt solution YSO4. After some time, a layer of metal Y
from the salt solution is formed on the surface of metal strip X. Metal X is used in galvanisation
whereas metal Y is used in making electric wires. Metal X and metal Y together form an alloy Z.
(a) What could metal X be?
(b) What could metal Y be?
(c) Name the metal salt YSO4.
(d) What type of chemical reaction takes place when metal X reacts with salt solution YSO 4? Write
the equation of the chemical reaction involved.
(e) Name the alloy Z.
8. A water insoluble substance ‘x‘ on reacting with dilute H2SO4 released a colourless and odourless
gas accompanied by brisk effervescence when the gas was passed through water, the solution
obtained turn blue litmus redon bubbling the gas through lime water, it initially became milky and
the milkiness disappeared when the gas was passed in excess identify the substance ‘x‘ and write
the chemical equations of the reaction involved.
