The novel “Every Day” by David Levithan is an exceptional piece of work.

It stars the

character A, who is an intellectual and emotionally formed, non-physical, genderless

being who, every day, wakes up inhabiting someone else’s consciousness. When A

wakes up, he/she must immediately try to figure out the body and person he /she have

woken up in. One day A wakes up in the body of this boy, Justin, and while spending

the day as him, falls in love for the first time with Justin’s poorly treated girlfriend,

Rhiannon. After she/he fall in love with her, A tries to keep contact with her and goes

through many obstacles to try and go back to her. Through several bumps in the road, A

manages to tell his/her secret to only two people, Rhiannon, and a boy to whom he

thinks he owes reparation. I loved this book because it allowed one being to experience

many of the American hardships and experiences through the lives and perspectives of

so many different people. So many topics such as teen drug and alcohol use, sexuality,

race, and much more, were addressed in such a way that was not too heavy, but not

taken too lightly either. I would recommend this book to those who are big fans of David

Levithan, Nichola Yoon, and anyone who likes a good mix between realistic fantasy,

and romantic fiction.
