ABOUT RCC
Roller-compacted concrete (RCC) is a specialized form of concrete. RCC gets its name
because, it is usually laid and compacted using heavy roller machinery.
Because of its excellent strength, durability, and rapid construction, RCC is a highly
recommended material for many different types of projects, including highways, factories,
pavements, and dams. In simpler terms, that roller-compacted concrete is made from the
same basic stuff as regular concrete. It includes cement, water, and aggregates (pieces of
rock, like gravel or crushed stone). These ingredients are mixed together to make the
concrete.
Roller-compacted concrete (RCC) is different from regular concrete. It's drier and stiff, so it
can be pressed down by special vibrating machines. RCC projects usually don't have joints,
so there's no need for molds, smoothing, or adding metal bars (Tie & Dowel Bars).
Because of their advantages, roller-compacted concrete (RCC) pavements are growing in
popularity as an alternative to traditional pavement materials.

02
BENEFICIAL CHARACTERISTICS

Being subjected to heavy loads and frequent use, RCC maintains its structural integrity and
1 surface quality over time. This resistance to wearing down makes RCC a durable .

Less paste Content in RCC means it shrinks less and is less prone to cracking .It's durable
2 and resistant to damage from chemicals and freezing temperatures

RCC can be made to be very strong, able to handle heavy loads without breaking, making it
3 useful for industries like mining and military.

Like other strong pavements, RCC doesn't develop ruts easily, except in areas with heavy
4 use of tire chains or studded tires

In places like waste yards and logging facilities, RCC saves time and money because it
5 doesn't need as much joint maintenance.

RCC can use different kinds of fine aggregates, including ones not suitable for asphalt .It
6 can be laid in thick layers, up to 10 inches, using special pavers

Reinforced Concrete Cement (RCC) is a cost-effective option for building roads and pavements
quickly. While it's been mainly used in areas with heavy loads and slow speeds due to its rough
surface, its usage is expanding. Here are some common applications:
1. - Access roads and parking lots for industrial plants
2. - Areas like shipping yards, ports, and loading docks
3. - Terminals for trucks and freight, storage facilities, and distribution centers
4. - Roads with low traffic in both urban and rural areas
5. - Parking areas for aircraft
6. - Military zones like loading areas and airfields
7. - Storage spaces for recreational vehicles
8. - Places for vehicle maintenance or composting
9. - Large commercial parking lots
10. - Roads within public parks
11. - Roads used for timber and logging work
12. - Shoulders of highways
13. - Temporary lanes for quick traffic diversion

03
RCC MIXTURE
Materials to Consider When Proportioning an RCC Mixture -
1. Aggregates - When making Roller-Compacted Concrete (RCC), it's best to use a mix of
aggregates that are well-balanced. This helps in having the right amount of paste, less empty
spaces, and a smoother finish. RCC usually needs more fine aggregate compared to regular
concrete.
2. Cementitious Materials - For Design Strength And Durability.
3. Water - The Water content Should be enough For Workability.
4. Admixtures - water reducers, retarders, accelerators, and superplasticizers.

RCC is a Special Concrete With Zero Slump Height.

CONCLUSION
Roller Compacted Concrete (RCC) offers a cost-effective and durable solution for various
construction projects, particularly those requiring pavement, dams, or heavy-duty structures.
With its high strength and durability, RCC proves to be a reliable material choice, capable of
withstanding heavy loads and harsh environmental conditions over time.
The design of RCC mixtures is crucial, with emphasis on using well-graded aggregates to
optimize paste content, minimize void space, and achieve a dense, smooth surface.
RCC mixtures typically require a higher proportion of fine aggregate to coarse aggregate
compared to conventional concrete, ensuring better performance and longevity.
Quality control measures are essential throughout the production process to ensure that the
cementitious materials used meet the required strength and durability standards.
Proper compaction techniques are critical for achieving the desired density and strength of
RCC structures, thereby enhancing their performance and longevity.

In conclusion, Roller Compacted Concrete offers a durable, cost-effective, and reliable solution for
a variety of construction applications. By adhering to proper design, quality control, and
compaction practices, RCC structures can be constructed to meet the desired strength and
durability requirements, providing long-lasting infrastructure for communities and industries alike.
