This document describes the steps to analyze and design a steel roof framing structure using STAAD.Pro v8i software. It involves creating the model geometry based on drawings, specifying material properties and supports, defining load cases for dead, live and wind loads calculated separately, performing linear analysis, and designing the structure for steel based on allowable stress design code NSCP 2001. The results are interpreted from the output files.

Step 2 : Open Staad.Pro software, open the New Project, edit the license configuration. Step 3 : Select “Truss”, and input the filename, locate the folder, select units, click next. Step 4 : Select “Edit Job Information”, input all the data’s for the project, click finish. Open the Staad editor on main menu to check the file inputs, click close Step 5 :Start and create the Model Geometry Inputs, use Staad Wizard if applicable for faster Input joint coordinates, and member incidences base on the drawing details from plan. Step 6 : Provide Edit on Model for additional nodes or members using the geometry model. Review the inputs at Staad editor on main menu to check inputs, click close Step 7 : Create the Group Definitions for the structure using the Tools at main menu bar Define member assignment for Top Chord, Bottom Chord, Vertical Member, Diagonal Step 8 : Check the group definitions using the Select at main menu bar Select by group name, highlight the group and check the model in the main window. Step 9 : Check the Input Units using the Tools at main menu bar Select current input units, edit length= inch, force=pound, click Ok. Step 10 : Specifying Materials using Command at main menu bar Select Member Property, click the steel table, click standard steel shapes, select American. Step 11 : For the Truss Materials, use angle bar materials, defined and select size & thickness Use double angle for TC and BC code LD Use single angle for web members code ST Assign the material specifications using the Select then click by group name. Step 12 : Specifying Material Constant using Command at main menu bar Use steel, check constant base on the NSCP specifications, edit data’s at staad editor Step 13 : Arrange the Truss configuration beta angle using Command at main menu bar. Highlight the BC/DM at model view, select Geometric constant, click beta angle and input data’s accordingly, BCbeta= 180º , DM beta=45º, check result in 3D render Step 14 : Specifying Supports using Command at main menu bar Highlight the node support at graphical mode using node cursor For Node # 1, select support specifications “Pinned” For Node # 11, select support specifications “Fixed Butt” Step 15 : Computations of Load Specifications for the structures using the NSCP standards Compute for Dead Load applied for top chord and bottom chord Compute for Live Load applied for top chord Compute for Wind Load applied for top chord in windward and leeward. Provide a separate calculations sheets using the applied codes. Step 16 : Create the Load Specifications using Command from main menu bar Select Loading and click definitions, in the data window highlight the load case detail Click Primary Load, and input Load Case 1 : DL, Case 2 LL, Case 3, WL Step 17 : Provide Input Load for the load specifications, at the data window highlight the load Case and click Add button, at the dialog box input the value of Member Load in Uniform Force, follow the same for the other load case 2 and 3 Note: check the value of force, downward= “-“negative, upward =“+” positive. Step 18 : Provide Load Combinations using Command from main menu bar Select Loading, click load combinations and input data base on the combination. Step 19 : Perform Analysis, from main menu bar select Command click Analysis and choose Linear Analysis, from main menu bar, select Analyze, from the input files, click the Output file and review the datas and check for the results. Step 20 : Perform Design using command at main menu bar, select Design and choose Steel Design. Step 21 : Perform Design Parameters from the data windows, click the parameters and edit the Track= 0 - click Add, Ratio= 1.0-click Add, then close Step 22 : Check Design from the data windows, click the design code, the specs and Optimized the result, check the text editor Step 23 : Interpretation of Result, click perform analysis, view the output files PART 1 : DRAWINGS
