Tottenham fans would have hoped

chairman Daniel Levy had a replacement
for Antonio Conte lined up ready for his
departure.

But Spurs are instead onto their third manager

of the season with Cristian Stellini following
Conte out the door.

All eyes will be on Julian Nagelsmann now, given
the respected former Bayern Munich coach is
still out of work and apparently not heading to
Chelsea.

Levy can’t afford to get his next managerial

appointment wrong, with Jose Mourinho, Nuno
Espirito Santo and now Conte all proving to be
the wrong fit since Mauricio Pochettino’s
departure in 2019.

Nagelsmann would be a popular appointment.

So how can Spurs fans expect their side to look
under the 35-year-old? talkSPORT takes a look…

Known for his advanced tactical nous,

Nagelsmann has his teams playing exciting
football.

Typically using a 4-2-3-1 formation, Naglesmann

likes his teams to play fairly narrow but high
with players winning the ball back sharpish with
bodies spread over the pitch.

He’s yet another German coach to have taken
inspiration from Ralf Rangnick’s gegenpressing,
much like his successor Thomas Tuchel and
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Unfortunately for Spurs, they currently lack a lot

of creativity in midfield, not to mention central
defenders comfortable on the ball.

But given Nagelsmann is renowned for

switching up his formation, let’s look at how the
unique 3-1-4-2 he used against Bayer
Leverkusen in his last game could work at Spurs.

Should Harry Kane still be here next season and

not be playing for Manchester United, Heung-
Min Son will come in alongside him up top,
rather than in his current inside-left position.

Kane will know doubt start should he not go

elsewhere in the summer

Rodrigo Bentancur will hopefully be back from

his anterior cruciate ligament rupture and he’d
start alongside summer signing Yves Bissouma
in midfield given Nagelsmann loves players who
can press in there.

This system would only allow for one right-sided

played, so Dejan Kulusevski would start at right
midfield, ahead of new wing-back Pedro Porro,
while Destiny Udogie, currently out on loan at
Udinese, should play on the other side.

This would leave Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to slot in

in his usual position as a no.6 – an important
position for the coach.

Nagelsmann’s back-three will have Cristian
Romero and Eric Dier in it – players used to this
system under Conte – and one more defender
on the right.

At points this season, Spurs fans have called for

Emerson Royal to come in as part of the back
three, and this would give their usual wide man
a different role and a chance to show his
defensive capabilities.

Emerson has been in :ne form during the second

half of the season but could be used differently

Between the sticks, it’s unclear whether Hugo

Lloris would still be there, but he’s the captain
for now.

It may well be the case that Nagelsmann could
look to recruit a star like Dortmund’s 25-year-old
goalkeeper Gregor Kobel – who he knew from
Hoffenheim – to replace the ageing Frenchman.

Likewise, Lucas Hernandez could be signed

from Bayern to help ease their central-defensive
issues.

But with Spurs current squad, this is how they

could shape up should Nagelsmann bring out
his unique formation…
