LAB SESSION 08
Draw 2d objects with Line Command using Cartesian Coordinates system
Objective:
Draw a Different figures using the X,Y Cartesian Coordinate System.

Coordinate System
Real object can be view in 3 dimensions (Width, Length and height), In AutoCAD these 3 dimensions are
represented with three Position X, Y and Z axis, is known as the Co-ordinate System.

Cartesian Coordinate System:

A system which define the point draw in a Plan with respect to 2 Axis (X, Y) or 3 Axis (X, Y, Z) in the same unit of
length Entering Point Styles in AutoCAD. This basic technique of making 2D drawing in AutoCAD and let the
learner to know about different coordinate systems (Absolute, Relative and Polar Coordinate system).
You can enter points directly on the command line using three different systems.

Practice Exercises:
 Absolute coordinate method.
 Relative coordinate method.
 Polar coordinate method.
 Direct distance entry method

Absolute coordinate method

Start the software; open a new drawing.Turn ON the GRID.
Format is: X, Y

Command: LINE
Command: Specify first point: -2,1 Specify next point
or [Undo]: 3,4 Specify next point or [Undo]: 3,1
Specify next point or [Close/Undo]: -2,1
Specify next point or [Close/Undo]: ENTER

Relative coordinate method.

Format is: @X, Y

Command: LINE
Command: Specify first point: -2,1 Specify next point
or [Undo]: @ 5,0 Specify next point or [Undo]: @3,0
Specify next point or [Close/Undo]: C

Polar coordinate method.

The polar coordinate method requires a known distance and an angle.
Format is: @Distance < angle or @Distance < direction

Command: LINE
LINE Specify first point: -2,1 Specify next point or
[Undo]: @5<0 Specify next point or [Undo]: @3<90
Specify next point or [Close/Undo]: c
