Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan

(Grade-11)

I- OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the learners must have:
● used the paragraph effectively in structuring ideas;

● described a written text as connected discourse; and

● Identified the properties of a well-written text.


II- SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: DEVELOPING EFFECTIVE PARAGRAPH WITH TOPIC SENTENCES AND


SUPPORTING DETAILS
Reference: Reading and Writing Skills
Materials: Laptop, LCD Projector, Colourful cartolina, Paste, Scissors, Manila Paper and etc.

III- PROCEDURE
● Preparatory:

⮚ Prayer

⮚ Checking of Attendance

● Review of the Past lesson: (Pre-writing Strategies)

● Motivation : Arrange the jumbled sentence to form a Paragraph

● Activity:
“FIXING A BROKEN HEART”
Directions:

⮚ Broken hearts will be distributed.

⮚ Play music or the Teacher asks somebody to sing a song.

⮚ While playing the music, the learners are going to fix or mend a
broken heart.
⮚ Mended hearts of the same colour belongs to the same group.

⮚ Tuck in the mended hearts.

⮚ Observe the colour and code of the heart. Blue- Topic Sentence,
Red-Supporting details.

⮚ The teacher will say “Show me the Parts”


⮚ Based on the mended heart that you posted on the board, you
defend your share.
⮚ HOTS questions must be asked and must be learned by the
students WH and H questions be emphasized.
● Analysis:

⮚ How do writers effectively use paragraphs in structuring their ideas?

⮚ Why is organization important in writing? How can this be achieved?

⮚ What are the characteristics of an effective Paragraph? How can this be


applied to my writing?
● Abstraction:

⮚ Proceed to the next lesson which is Developing Effective Paragraph with


Topic Sentences and Supporting details.
⮚ Asks the learners about their ideas in developing of an effective paragraph.

⮚ Introduce the meaning of the Paragraph, Topic Sentence, and Supporting


details.
⮚ Discuss the Parts of the Paragraph.

● Application:
The teacher let the students choose any essay that you have written for any other
subject except English Class. Choose one to three related paragraphs from your
essay. Working with a partner, Identify what flaws exist in your paragraphs.
After getting feedback from your partner, revise your paragraphs by applying the
techniques you have learned in this lesson. Then, working in groups of three,
exchange your work with your group mates. Ask your classmates to comment on
your paragraph’s overall improvement.

IV- ASSIGNMENT

A. Write an appropriate topic sentence for a paragraph that has the following supporting
details.
1. Topic sentence:
● Visiting the National Museum

● Having a picnic at Luneta Park

● Watching the sunset at Manila Bay


2. Topic sentence:
● Cats do not need as much attention as dogs.

● Cats are more conscious of their own hygiene and lick themselves clean.

● Cats help get rid of poets like cockroaches and mice.


B. Write four sentences of supporting details for each of the given topic sentences.
1. Many memes on the internet are actually relevant.
