Objective To be able to determine the gold content of an ore sample
by the fire assay method.
Scope This procedure is applicable to high and low grades
samples,

Procedure
All throughout the procedure, PPE’s such as respirators, gloves, eye
goggles, laboratory gowns and those , which are deemed proper to use
during the course of the analysis, should be used to prevent accidents or
incidents.

Extra caution must be observed in dealing with acids. When in
contact with other materials, acids may cause fire. It causes
irreversible eye injury and deep penetrating ulcers of the skin.
When ingested, it may cause gastrointestinal tract bums leading
to the perforation of the digestive tract. When inhaled, it may
cause iiritation of the respiratory tract with buming pain in the
nose and throat, coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath and
pulmonary edema. Prolonged inhalation may cause nosebleeds,
nasal congestion, erosion of the teeth, perforation of the nasal
septum, chest pain and bronchitis. Prolonged eye contact may
cause conjunctivitis.
In the preparatifin of reagents, acids should always be added to
water, never the reverse.

Large spills may be neutralized with dilute alkaline solutions of
soda ash or lime. Absorb the spills using an absorbent and non-
