For copper shipment samples, save slags for retreatment portion. 4.5 Weigh the lead button to check if it is within the 25-35 grams weight. (If the weight is not within the range, repeat steps 2-4 and adjust weights of flour or niter to be added.) 5. Cupel the lead button. 5.1 Put the lead button at the pre-heated cupel and charge at the furnace at a temperature of 1100°C for about 45 minutes. 5.2 Open slightly the door of the furnace to allow just enough entry of air by natural draft when all the lead oxide has been absorbed by the cupel. Take off each cupel and allow to cool. 6 Weigh the gold and silver dore. 6.1 Extract the cupel by the use of pliers and clean off adhering bone ash with a brush, (For copper shipment samples, save the slag). 62 Flatten the pri with a light hammer and place in a 15-ml. porcelain crucible. 6.3 Weigh the silver-gold dore at the gold Microbalance. Record the weight and label as W2. fa 6.4 Put back the dore at the crucible. ! 7. Separate the silver from the gold by parting. 7.4 Add 5-mi 4:4 nitric acid (1.2.6) and put on the hotplate at a Moderate temperature to dissolve the silver. 7.1.2 Refer to SJP-LAB-712 for the operation of hotplates 7.1.3 Avoid skin contact with the hotplate to prevent bums. 7.2 Decant the solution and add 5-ml cone. nitric acid solution (1.2.5). 7.3 Continue heating until reaction ceases. Save the washings for silver recovery. 7.4 — Decant the solution and wash Dore several times with distilled water. Lb Prepared
