TYPES OF PROCESS
DIAGRAMS IN THE
INDUSTRY
The flowchart is a graphic representation of
an algorithm or process. It is a fundamental
tool for the elaboration of a procedure since
through them we can see graphically and
consecutively the development of a certain
activity. The flowcharts represent graphically
the sequences followed by the operations and a
certain procedure and the route of the forms
or materials show the administrative units
general procedures or the positions involved in
detailed procedures for each described
operation and may also indicate the equipment
used in each case.

BLOCK FLOW DIAGRAMS -

BFDS
Block Flow Diagram in which the
process or the different parts of
a process are presented by means
of boxes or blocks or circles that
are connected by lines or arrows
that indicate the inputs and
outputs.

PROCESS FLOW DIAGRAMS -

PFDS
Process flow diagram, shows the
interrelationships between the
major teams by means of Union
lines and representative symbols of
the different teams involved in the
process are used.

P&ID – PIPING AND

INSTRUMENTATION DIAGRAM
The piping and instrumentation diagram is a
diagram that shows the flow of the process
in the pipes as well as the installed
equipment and instrumentation. They are
made up of a series of symbols that allow
the identification of all the components that
make up a process.
