I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard The learners demonstrate understanding of different
techniques to separate mixtures
B. Performance Standard The learners should be able to separate desired materials
from common and local products.
C. Learning Enumerate techniques in separating mixtures such as
Competency/Objectives picking, decantation, use of magnet, sieving, filtering, and
Write the LC code for each evaporation. (S6MT-Id-f-2)

B. Other Learning PowerPoint Presentation, pictures, sand , magnets ,
Resource mix of nuts, peas, beaker, water, alcohol burner,
cloth, strainer ,book, balloon , paper clips, nails
IV. PROCEDURES
Engagement -Show the big tree with big and ripe fruits. Let the
Engagement pupils pick one fruit through calling their:” First
Letter of their First Name “then read the question at
the back of the fruit.

-Show the book , water, and balloon , let them

identify and illustrate how the molecules or particles
move.

-( INTEGRATIVE APPROACH)
-The teacher show the “mystery can” and let the
Exploration pupils identify what’s inside the can.
- What is inside the mystery can? ( CLI Integration
and Values Integration)
- Where can you find sand? Can you find here in San
Pedro? On what part or place? Why there must be
a sand in our river and beaches? Is it necessary
that we have to take care of the sand found in our
locality? Why?
- Supposing the sand and water will mix together
(Show how the sand and water mix).
What do you think will happen? Can we separate it
again? How?
- Can you suggest any ways on how to separate it?

Group Task
( COLLABORATIVE OR INTERACTIVE APPROACH)
1. Setting of Standards
2. Grouping. Each group will be given activity cards.
3. Let them do the activity “ Mix and Pick”
Exploration

DIFFERENTIATED INSTRUCTION
Group 1: Materials: magnet, clips, nails, sand
- Let them do their own activity, discover how
the mixture will be separated each other.
- Present a poem in explaining their answer.

Group 2: Materials: beaker, alcohol burner, water,

salt

- Let them do their own activity, discover how

the mixture will be separated each other.
- Present an action song in explaining their
answer.

Group 3: Materials : Cloth, sand , beaker , water

- Let them do their own activity, discover
how the mixture will be separated each
other.
- Present a song in explaining their answer.
Group 4: Materials: Assorted nuts and peas
- Let them do their own activity, discover how
the mixture will be separated each other.
- Present an illustration or drawing in
presenting their answer.

Explanation Presentation of Outputs

Explanation ( CONSTRUCTIVISM APPROACH)

Processing of Questions:
- What was the presentation all about?
- How can you separate paper clips, nails and
sand? Sand and water? Assorted nuts and
peas?
- Present a power point presentation and discuss
the ways on how to separate mixtures.
- What are the ways on separating mixtures?
- What do you mean by handpicking or manual
separation?
- How can you separate sand and water?
- If want to boil water and salt? what kind of
technique that you have to do”
- What about assorted nuts and peas? How can
you get and separate it?
- Is it necessary to separate any materials at
home? Why?
- When the water in your faucet is dirty. What
should you do in order to clean it up?
- Why you should clean it up?
- What are the different methods in separating
mixtures?
.
“Think , Pair and Share”

You’re stranded on a desert island surrounded by

sea water, sadly your science teacher is lost at sea
but luckily all your science equipment has washed
up...

Elaboration

...how could you separate a mixture of sand, salt and

water to get drinking water?
Goal: to extract clean fresh water

You should be able to explain your reasoning for

each step, use your science knowledge!

- Have the children think, pair off and make solutions

about what will happen when they stranded on a
desert island surrounded by sea water, and
their science teacher was lost at sea but
luckily all the science equipment has been
washed up...

- Integrative Approach
English Integration: (Speaking and Communicating) .
They can write their plan and solutions in their
notebooks and share it to the class.

- Independent Practice:
- Call one child to demonstrate one method of
separating mixture.
- Explain how the mixture will be separated.

- REFLECTIVE APPROACH
- In your own experience at home, did you encounter
any situation which involves mixtures?
- ( Sharing their experiences at home)
- What solution did you made? How can you separate
the mixture?
- Supposing your baby sister and brother playing their
toys at home. How can you arrange the toys in their
proper order?
- Complete the graphic organizer.
-

Ways of Separating Mixtures

-What are the ways in separating mixtures?

Let the pupils write on the board.

Evaluation Answer the following question:

- Enumerate at least five (5) ways in separating
mixtures.
Additional activities for Draw how each individual separate the mixture.
