Natural Heritage
Mount Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary
(Davao Oriental)

DESCRIPTION: The Mount Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary is a lush mountain ridge
that sits in the province of Davao Oriental. Located along the southeastern portion of
Mindanao Island, this province has an abundance of coconut trees and is the country's top
producer of coconuts and dried coconut meat. Aside from its rich forests, it is also well
known for the Aliwagwag Falls, one of the most scenic waterfalls in the
Philippines and features over 130 cascades and multiple rock pools filled with turquoise
waters. The Mount Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary has become a safe haven for
various animals and plants. Among the wildlife that finds solace in the mountain range are
eight species that are endemic to the area, such as the Philippine eagle and the Philippine
cockatoo.

PRESERVATION: Natural heritage, in its simplest terms, is the natural and delineated
features of nature carved out of nature’s beauty and which provide a natural habitat to
endangered species in the world. So for our future generations, in order for them to still see
the scenic beauty that nature provides, it’s our duty to preserve and protect it. In order to
preserve this natural heritage, which is the Mount Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary,
we need to conduct a survey every time a tourist visits the place. If there is something
happening in the place while they are touring the sites, like animals or plants dying
suddenly, they have to conduct a survey to find out what the cause is. I mentioned in the
description that Mount Hamiguitan has a lot of species living inside it, and this site is one
of their safest places to live. Moreover, we should also create a program to educate and
train every staff member, and not just staff but also the tourists who will visit the site.
Because most of the time, people tend to litter around places while sightseeing, they should
know that doing this can damage the natural resources. Furthermore, doing this kind of
program is a big help in order to preserve our natural heritage sites.

PROMOTION: One of the important things to promote the natural heritage sites is that we
need to gather important information about the site, like what I’ve mentioned before, that
the Mount Hamiguitan Range Wildlife Sanctuary is rich in forests and several plants and
animals live there. So in order to promote this, we need to use social media platforms
because we all know that a lot of people are always using technology because it is easy to
access and use. So with the help of social media platforms, we can easily promote our
natural heritage sites on platforms that can be easily seen by people around the world.

CULTURAL HERITAGE

Mactan Shrine (Cebu City)

DESCRIPTION: Mactan Shrine, also known as Liberty Shrine, is a memorial park on the
island of Mactan in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, Philippines. It hosts two monuments, namely
the Magellan Monument, which is dedicated to Portuguese explorer Ferdinand
Magellan and the Lapu-Lapu Monument, a bronze statue which commemorates Lapu-
Lapu, a native leader who defeated Spanish soldiers led by Magellan in the 1521 Battle of
Mactan.

PRESERVATION: In order to preserve this cultural heritage that is very important to us as

Filipinos because it is part of our history that we shouldn’t have to forget, preserving this
kind of cultural heritage is an important factor in maintaining cultural diversity in the face
of growing globalization. So in order to preserve this, we should use an integrated
education approach in this global society. Sustainability in the preservation of cultural
heritage through education should be encouraged. It is a way of seeing how tangible and
intangible cultural heritage can be safeguarded. Because of the way of educating other
people about this cultural heritage, it will serve as a way that this cultural heritage will
never be forgotten, no matter how many years pass, because the information that they’ve
learned will be passed on to the next generation of their family. Moreover, the role of media
can also be the way to preserve this cultural heritage because it has enabled the sharing of
cultural and historical heritage around the world. Digital storage is not only the most
popular method of preservation, but it is the trend for the future.

PROMOTION: In order to promote this cultural heritage, which is the Mactan Shrine, we
can organize major events to promote this heritage. This major event will attract a lot of
attention because it will serve as a promotion for the cultural attractions. Furthermore, in
order to draw a lot of attention to the events that we organize, we can also use the media to
spread the news that we are going to have an event. We can provide more information
about the event that we will be holding and, of course, where it will be held and when the
date is. Through the use of media, I'm very sure that this event will be successful and that
a lot of tourists will be attending.

BUILT HERITAGE

Historic City of Vigan (Ilocos Sur)

DESCRIPTION: Established in the 16th century, Vigan is the best-preserved example of a

planned Spanish colonial town in Asia. Its architecture reflects the coming together of
cultural elements from elsewhere in the Philippines, from China and from Europe, resulting
in a culture and townscape that have no parallel anywhere in East and South-East Asia.

PRESERVATION: So in order to preserve and protect these attractions and so that the next
generations can still see and witness the well-known unique architecture and building
design that is reminiscent of traditional Chinese architecture, we can preserve them by
conducting regular visits to the tourist spots and checking to see if the structure of the
building is still okay and if there are any damages because of the sudden climate change.
By doing this, we can ensure the safety of our tourists and preserve our built attractions,
such as the Historic City of Vigan.

PROMOTION: So in order to promote this built heritage, we can create a site or blog post
about this historic city of Vigan. In the blog post, we can explain what kind of built
attractions the Historic City of Vigan is and also what they will gain if they visit these
places. Promoting with the help of a blog post or website is a great way that we can easily
attract tourists to go to our places because some people who want to travel and explore the
world will search first and find some relevant information about that place. So because we
are using a blog post or website, they can easily access and see the site.
