Foreword

“Do what you think best, but be the best in what you do.”

- Kamalnayan Bajaj

These words of our founder have always guided Bajaj Auto.

Being best means outperforming ourselves every single day to achieve new heights. Being best means serving our
customers with quality products.

Being best means having a global presence, and we do… Building on our credo to provide trusted and reliable
mobility solutions, we have significantly invested in technology and innovation to design motorcycles that are loved
not just in India but in 79 countries around the world. Bajaj Auto has grown to become India’s No.1 motorcycle
exporter — with two out of three bikes carrying a Bajaj badge.

With sales expanding in 79 nations, Bajaj Auto has set a gold standard for ‘Make in India’. Today we are The World’s
Favourite Indian and a major credit for this goes to YOU, our Sales Executives who work hard every day to represent
Brand Bajaj Auto to the customers.

At Bajaj Auto, we take it as our responsibility to upskill you, to help you perform your job even better.
The width and depth of information about our motorcycles is huge. However, we have attempted to put it forward in
a concise format to render this go-to guide. The guide covers content ranging from product details and automotive
technology to facilitating the sales process through finance and exchange. The guide also covers the Bajaj 7-Step
sales process to help you give the customers the best experience. This E-Sales Guide is a one-stop solution to serve
your needs for knowledge.

Our customers today are aware and passionate about motorcycles. They often ask complex questions about multiple
motorcycles and it becomes essential to be ready to confidently answer any query that comes up. This guide would
act as easy access to all the vital information to address the queries quickly and efficiently.

We sincerely hope that this initiative will help you convert customer queries to happy customers.

All the best!

Bajaj Auto: The World’s Favourite Indian

The Bajaj Group is amongst the top 10 business houses in India. Its footprint stretches over a wide range of
industries, spanning automobiles (two wheelers manufacturer and three wheelers manufacturer), home appliances,
lighting, iron and steel, insurance, travel and finance. The group's flagship company, Bajaj Auto, is ranked as the
world's fourth largest three and two-wheeler manufacturer and the Bajaj brand is well-known across several
countries in Latin America, Africa, Middle East, South and South East Asia. Founded in 1926, at the height of India's
movement for independence from the British, the group has an illustrious history. The integrity, dedication,
resourcefulness and determination to succeed which are characteristic of the group today, are often traced back to
its birth during those days of relentless devotion to a common cause. Jamnalal Bajaj, founder of the group, was a
close confidant and disciple of Mahatma Gandhi. In fact, Gandhiji had adopted him as his son.

This close relationship and his deep involvement in the independence movement did not leave Jamnalal Bajaj with
much time to spend on his newly launched business venture. We are celebrating 125th Birth anniversary of Shri.
Jamnalal Bajaj on 4th of November 2014.

His son, Kamalnayan Bajaj, then 27, took over the reigns of business in 1942. He too was close to Gandhiji and it was
only after Independence in 1947, that he was able to give his full attention to the business. Kamalnayan Bajaj not
only consolidated the group, but also diversified into various manufacturing activities.

The present Chairman of the group, Rahul Bajaj, took charge of the business in 1965. Under his leadership, the
turnover of the Bajaj Auto the flagship company has gone up from INR.72 million to INR. 120 billion, its product
portfolio has expanded, and the brand has found a global market. He is one of India’s most distinguished business
leaders, bike manufacturer India and internationally respected for his business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit.

In 2005, Rahul Bajaj's son Rajiv Bajaj stepped into the shoes of Managing Director of Bajaj Auto and steered the
organization to becoming a global automobile behemoth. He introduced the Pulsar range of bikes, that
revolutionised the two-wheeler market in India. The legacy of our Auto Rickshaws has been soaring heights and
display unparalleled market dominance across any automobile segment.

In 2007, Bajaj Auto acquired a 14% stake in KTM that has since grown to 48%. This partnership catalysed Bajaj
Auto’s endeavour to democratise motorcycle racing in India. Bajaj Auto today exclusively manufactures Duke range
of KTM bikes and exports them worldwide. In FY2018, KTM was the fastest growing motorcycle brand in the
country

Bajaj Auto has also led the pioneering introduction of India’s first ever Quadricycle – Qute.

Bajaj Auto exports to 70+ countries and a significant share of revenues come from Exports. This stands as a
testament to the new brand image – The World’s Favourite Indian.

Engine
What is Engine?

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
Engine is the primary source of power for the motorcycle. Power is generated by combustion of air fuel
mixture. All engines made today are 4-stroke engines.

4 Stroke Engine Working

Key Terms:
1. Cubic Centimeters (cc): The total volume of air/fuel mixture an engine can draw in during one
complete
engine cycle; it is also known as engine displacement.
More cc means higher powered engine

2. Power: Power is the rate at which work is done. The output of an Engine is measured in several
units (kW, PS, HP)
1kW = 1.341 BHP
1BHP = 0.745 kW
1PS = 0.986 BHP
Higher power means better acceleration & top speed.

3. Torque: It gives the vehicle it’s pulling power from standstill. Maximum torque is achieved at a
lower rpm
Unit: Nm/Kg-m (1 Kg-m = 9.8 Nm)
Higher torque means greater pulling power.

4. Top Speed: It is the maximum speed at which the motorcycle can travel basis the engine
displacement, power & tyre size
Higher top speed for faster rides.

5. Fuel Tank Capacity: It is the maximum fuel in litres that can be stored in the motorcycle
Higher fuel tank capacity for lesser re-fueling stops.

75 | E-Sales Guide CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO CONTENTS

6. Mileage: It is the maximum distance the motorcycle can travel in 1 litre of fuel. It is
measured in Km/litre or Miles/Gallon

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
Higher mileage, easy on pocket.

2-Valve and 4-Valve Engine

Two valve engines consist of only two valves operated by a single overhead camshaft (SOHC). The
largest valve of the two takes care of intake while the smaller valve is responsible for discharging the
exhaust gases. Thanks to the simple construction, they are simpler to manufacture, easy to maintain,
and hence the more cost-effective solution. The 4-valve technology has been built keeping in mind an
efficient combustion process. As each valve is service by its own intake or exhaust port, it provides
high intake and exhaust gas breathing efficiency. 4 valve engine valves are smaller and lighter as
compared to an equivalent 2 valve configuration.

This greatly enhances the high rpm breathing efficiency and thus results in more power and torque
than an equivalent 2 valve engine.

Innovations in Engine
To provide best performance at all speeds through more torque, efficiency and lower emissions,
Bajaj has created patented DTS-i Technology. Read more about it in Bajaj Technologies section or

Intelligent CDI

The Digital Capacitor Discharge Ignition continuously senses engine speeds, throttle inputs, engine
temperature and riding conditions to continuously and seamlessly provide optimum ignition
timings. Provides multiple benefits of a quick start, brisk pick-up, high power, high fuel efficiency
and low tail pipe emissions in a seamless manner to the rider.

It provides quick throttle response with dynamic performance.

76 | E-Sales Guide CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO CONTENTS

Engine Cooling Systems
Engines get hot during operation and need to be regularly cooled for optimum performance

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
There are two types of engine cooling systems:
AIR COOLING

In Air Cooled Engines, cooling fins are added around the surface of the engine. It works by
increasing the surface area of the object to be cooled. Cool air can flow over the engine to help
dissipate the heat faster.

Better cooling cost effective and longer engine life.

LIQUID COOLING

The engine is surrounded by a water jacket in which coolant liquid circulates to cool the engine. It uses a
special compact and lightweight aluminum radiator and a body design that utilizes airflow for heat
dissipation. Additional fan cools the radiator when motorcycle is not in motion. Does not require heat-
dissipating fins.

Stable performance during long-distance, high-speed riding and touring.

77 | E-Sales Guide CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO CONTENTS

The most common coolant is water. Its high heat capacity and low cost makes it a suitable heat-
transfer medium. It is usually used with additives, like corrosion inhibitors and antifreeze.
Antifreeze, a solution of a suitable organic chemical (most often ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, or

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
propylene glycol) in water, is used when the water-based coolant must withstand temperatures
below 0 °C, or when its boiling point is required to be raised.

Coolant check intervals for bikes having liquid cooling are as below:

Dominar: Every 5000 kms

Pulsar RS 200: Every 5000 kms

Pulsar NS 200: Every 5000 kms

Gearbox
What is Gearbox?

Gearbox converts the rotational energy of the engine to a rotational speed appropriate for the wheels. It
varies the ratio between the engine speed and the rotational speed of the wheels to suit different riding
conditions. It helps the power produced by the engine to be smoothly transferred to the wheels.

78 | E-Sales Guide CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO CONTENTS

Constant Mesh Gearbox

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
In a constant mesh gearbox, gears are in constant mesh with each other. Dog clutches are used for
shifting and selecting gears. It is widely used in most motorcycles

Constant Mesh Gearbox offers seamless and precise gearshifts for a pleasant riding
experience.

Drive Chain and Sprocket

Used to transmit the power form the gearbox to the rear wheel. Sprockets are mounted on the rear
wheel and on the output shaft of the gearbox. The drive chain forms a link between both (driver &
driven) sprockets and maintains a positive drive. Drive chain should be adjusted for optimum slack for
optimum power delivery and better efficiency.

The various types of drive trains available in two-wheelers are as below:

• Sprocket and chain

• Belt and pulley
• Propeller shaft type

79 | E-Sales Guide CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO CONTENTS

Exhaust System

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
The to less harmful gases via catalytic converter and released in the atmosphere in addition to reduction
of noise by passing through the muffler or silencer. combustion gases from the engine are passed through
the exhaust system where the toxic emissions are converted

Innovation: ExhausTEC
To provide better low to mid-range torque, Bajaj Auto has created patented ExhausTEC Technology. Read
more about it in Bajaj Technology section or click here.

Clutch

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
What is clutch?
Clutch is a link between the engine and the transmission for power transfer. Clutch is used to engage and
disengage the power flow for easy gear shifting. Smoother the clutch functions, better the power transfer
will be. In a clutch, friction plays an important role. When a rotating frictional surface comes in contact
with a stationary frictional surface both the surface starts rotating as a single unit.

Wet Multi-Plate clutch construction

Wet clutch operates in oil. The engine oil provides cooling as well as lubrication between the clutch
mating parts. It increases power transmission capability in compact size.

• Actuating mechanism: These linkages carry the brake signal from the handlebar to disengage the
clutch
• Outer hub: It is geared to the crankshaft which rotates with the engine speed.
• Inner hub: It has inner gear teeth's driving transmissions input shaft.
• Steel Plate: This plate provides a clean surface for the friction plates to bind to when the clutch is
engaged
• Friction Plate: It helps to transmit the torque from the engine to the gear box
• Springs: Spring maintains pressure on the pressure plates keeping then in contact
• Oil: It helps to reduce the heat generated during engagement and disengagement of the clutch.

81 | E-Sales Guide CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO CONTENTS

Slipper clutch

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
The purpose of a normal clutch is to transmits the engine power to rear the wheel. Whenever a rider
is riding the bike at high speed and downshifts rapidly in corners, the engine braking force causes
the rear wheel to lose traction or lock the wheel and the back-torque causes engine damage.

A slipper clutch inner hub and outer hub are designed with angled ramps. Since these ‘ramps’ are
angled, they facilitate sliding in the angular grooves created by the two consecutive ramps.
Whenever rider down shifts rapidly, sudden drop in power causes strain on the transmission side of
the clutch. This will cause the circular disc attached to the pressure plate of the clutch to rise, as the
engine is moving slower than the transmission, consequently letting the clutch plates to slip over
each other and smoothen out the jerks during downshift at high speed, till both the transmission
side and the engine side match in terms of rpm. This prevents the rear wheel from locking and losing
traction.

Chassis
What is chassis?
Chassis acts as the main building block for the motorcycle. All components are mounted on the
chassis. It should be strong enough to support all the systems. Chassis differ based on the type of
motorcycle

82 | E-Sales Guide CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO CONTENTS

Single Cradle Frame

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
Single cradle is the simplest and most widely used frame in a motorcycle. It consists of two tubes,
main tube supporting the upper components and down tube to support the engine. The pivoted joint
supports the swing arm.

It is simple in construction and is low cost.

Example: CT 100 and Platina

Double Cradle Frame

Double cradle frame is an advancement of the single cradle frame. It is like single cradle frame in
construction, however here there are two down tubes for supporting the engine.

It is more rigid in construction, low cost and offers better load carrying capability.

Example : Pulsar 150, 180, 220, Avenger

83 | E-Sales Guide CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO CONTENTS

Perimeter Frame

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
The thick, light and shiny "inverted tick" is the primary frame Perimeter frame are designed to
create the shortest path between the most stressed parts of the motorcycle for maximum stiffness
and stability. This reduced distance from the steering headstock and the swing arm reduces the
center of gravity, which provides better handling in the corners.

The entire USP of the frame is that it is strong and made from pressed metal and not welded. Which
means all the parts of the frame are connected in such a way that it all comes together as a single
piece of metal adding to its rigidity. Also, the design of the frame makes it one of a kind. In this
frame, the distance from the handle to the swingarm is at the shortest distance.

What this allows is for a shorter wheelbase without compromising on any part and hence
accordingly gives for a sharper handling characteristic to the bike. Also, the engine of the bike is held
on to the frame and is not supported below via a cradle making the frame a lot lighter. Add to that
there are also the twin beams that go from the handlebar to the swingarm making the frame a lot
stronger and agile. This gives the bike a better handling characteristic in a way that the bike will
always hold its line in a straight and cornering on it will be a total breeze.

Example: NS200 & RS200

Beam Type Perimeter Frame

84 | E-Sales Guide CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO CONTENTS

The perimeter frame provides exceptional torsional rigidity and lateral strength. It is like a
perimeter frame, but it has new contoured stamp metal swing arm which adds on to the rigid
construction

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
The perimeter frame coupled with lower center of gravity gives the rider unmatched handling and
superior control at every corner.

It offers perfect blend of strength and handling.

Example: Dominar 400

Suspension
What is suspension?
Suspension is required to absorb the shocks from bumps & potholes on the road. Without a good
suspension system, the bike ride would be very uncomfortable. A good suspension system also
ensures better handling of the motorcycle.

The shock absorber consists of two components i.e. Spring and Damper. Both components have
different functions individually and behave differently but when assembled as one unit perform
shock absorption. The spring will keep on bouncing while the damper with remain jammed in one
position after absorbing the shock. When in tandem, the spring will bring back the damper to its
normal position.

Innovation: SNS Suspension

To provide better riding comfort, low cost and better load carrying capacity, Bajaj Auto has created
patented SNS Suspension Technology. Read more about it in Bajaj Technology section or click here.

85 | E-Sales Guide CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO CONTENTS

Telescopic Front Suspension

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
Two forks are connected to handlebars and front wheels. The forks are large hydraulic shock
absorbers with internal coil springs. The top of the forks is connected to the motorcycle's frame
while the bottom of the forks is connected to the front wheel axle. The lower portion or fork sliders
slide up and down the fork tubes. The fork tubes must be mirror-smooth to seal the fork oil inside
the fork. Suspension travel is tuned for comfort and absorbs all bumps effectively. The suspension
travel varies for different motorcycles, for example: Sport motorcycle and Adventure motorcycle
will have different travel.

Suspension travel helps to soak in bumps with ease.

Upside Down Forks (USD)

"Upside-down" (USD) forks, also known as inverted forks, are installed inverted compared to
conventional telescopic forks. The slider bodies are at the top, fixed in the triple clamps, and the
stanchion tubes are at the bottom, fixed to the axle. It decreases the unsprang weight of the
motorcycle and increases torsional stiffness.

It improves handling.

86 | E-Sales Guide CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO CONTENTS

Swing Arm with Shock Absorbers

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
The rear suspension has a lightweight single-coil spring and a damper. Shock absorber is supported
between the swing arm and the frame. It is typically a conventional type of suspension system. The
damper absorbs the road shock and the spring ensures return action of the damper.

It hence ensures comfortable commuting for both rider and pillion even on the uneven roads.

Single Spring Shock Absorber

Main aim of the suspension is to dampen the road vibration. As the bike comes in contact with
bumps and potholes the springs compress and regains its original shape in certain time. Spring will
keep on bouncing unless any external device is used to soak these spring vibrations. To control the
vibrations damping oil is used with piston. They are packed in body or tube. Whenever a bike runs
on bump piston moves inside the tube that is filled with oil. The spring compresses and push the
piston. As the piston moves, the oil is forced through tiny holes and valves within the piston,
precisely controlling the amount of resistance to movement. The tube assembly is placed between
the spring.

It dampens the road shocks and has a lower buying cost.

87 | E-Sales Guide CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO CONTENTS

Nitrox Suspension

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
Nitrox suspension consists of a separate canister containing pressurized nitrogen gas. The
pressurised gas maintains pressure on fluid to prevent the foaming inside the shock absorber

It has a longer life than normal suspension and dampens shocks better.

Nitrox Mono Suspension

Normally, the suspension on motorcycles are spring absorbed and hydraulically damped. While this
has worked very well over time, riders demand more ride comfort. A variable rate suspension spring
does a good job of absorbing all road irregularities, it is the hydraulic damping which has some
limitations in the initial damping action and which it is not capable of catering to.

This is primarily due to the presence of a small amount of air in the hydraulic damper, which causes
cavitation and impedes a smooth hydraulic damping action. In a Nitrox setup, Nitrogen gas under
pressure co-exists in a chamber next to the oil, thus preventing any presence of air in oil and
preventing cavitation.

The initial damping action is thus catered to effectively and the net result is a very smooth ride,
especially over small undulations. As the Nitrogen gas molecule is large, it does not leak easily and is
retained in the damping system for a long time.

By virtue of Nitrogen being stored in a separate external canister, it gets cooled by ambient air and
thus leads to a highly efficient and consistent damping action over extended period of usage and any
road surfaces.

Suspension tuned to sport or comfort thus, providing invincible balance with super comfort.

Brakes

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
Brakes are used to bring the moving motorcycle to a halt. Brakes use frictional forces to stop the wheels.

Advancement in Braking Technology

Brakes are a vital component of any automobile and are as important as performance from an engine.
With ever increasing need to draw out maximum performance from the engine, the power output has
kept on increasing. And to compliment the power output and keep the rider and pillion safe at high
speeds, the braking systems have also evolved over time. It all started with drum brakes and now have
moved to ABS.

In this session, let’s get a clear understanding on various braking systems and their benefits. We will
discuss the following braking systems:

• Drum Brakes
• Disc Brakes
• Petal Disc Brakes

Drum Brakes

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
Round revolving drum are attached to the wheels and two brake shoes that expand within the
round drum when brakes are applied.

It is economical to maintain.

Disc Brakes

Consists of brake pads, disc plate and a caliper assembly. The pads press against the disc and reduce
the speed of the wheel which helps in preventing accidents.

Quick to stop. Enhanced braking efficiency.

Petal Disc Brake

A notch above compared to conventional disc brakes. Construction is similar to conventional disc.
The only difference is the petal shape of the disc plate.

Advantages:

• Lesser weight hence less unsprang mass for better handling

• Cut petals help in better heat dissipation for efficient braking

90 | E-Sales Guide CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO CONTENTS

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
The ‘Wave’ design of the petal disc facilitates the air flow through the caliper slot and assist in
cooling of the brake pads which avoid Brake Pulsation. Also braking generates a lot of heat energy
which have to be dissipated quickly in order to avoid damages to the disc. Therefore, it increases
surface area required to get more amount of air in contact with the disc during heavy and longer
braking. It also very helpful in removing the glazed formed when the brake pads material becomes
very hot and reduces the brake efficiency drastically.

So, are petal disc brakes better than the conventional disc brakes?

Yes! A notch above. But both have its own advantages when it comes to applications. In a
conventional motorcycle, to keep the costs low and not compromise on braking efficiency, the
conventional disc does the job. For spirited riding and handling, where unspring mass plays a big
role, petal disc makes better sense.

Anti-Skid Braking

A feature that distributes braking force between front and rear wheel resulting in quick stopping
without wheels getting locked. Brake pressure is applied to the front wheel automatically while only
the rear brake pedal is pressed.

Disc Brake with Single Channel ABS
In normal braking condition, disc brake stops the bike efficiently. But during emergency braking

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
when a rider applies the brake to stop the bike, the wheels get locked resulting in skidding.

The Bajaj Disc brake with Single channel ABS technology with its key component like ECU
continuously monitors the wheel speed and prevents the front wheel from locking during heavy
braking situation. Thus, allowing the rider to maintain control and take a turn without skidding.

Disc Brake with Twin-Channel ABS

In a bike with the single channel ABS, only the front wheels are provided with ABS technology.
During the emergency braking situation front vehicle is prevented from getting lock but the rear
wheel has a tendency of getting lock.

The Bajaj Disc brake with Twin-channel ABS technology with its key component like ECU
continuously monitors both the wheel speed and prevents the wheels from locking during heavy
braking situation. Thus, allowing the rider to maintain control and take a turn or stop without
skidding. The bike with the Twin-channel ABS technology has lesser stopping distance than the bike
with Single channel ABS.

Spark Plug

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
Nickel Tipped Spark Plugs: Sometimes referred to as "standard" or "normal", copper spark plugs
use a nickel-alloy coating for the electrode. Only the inner core itself is copper. This is because
copper is a soft metal that would melt almost instantly if subject to the extreme heat that outer
spark plug areas endure. Because of the construction of these types of plugs, we’ll refer to them as
“copper/nickel” for the purposes of this article. It’s interesting to note that most types of spark plugs
use cores made of copper due to its ability to conduct electricity well. Copper/nickel spark plugs are
lower in cost and generally have a shorter lifespan – especially if fitted to modern vehicles with
high-energy distributor-less ignition systems or coil-on-plug ignition systems. However, there are
cases when copper/nickel plugs are advantageous. Because copper delivers the best spark under
the adverse conditions generated by turbochargers or higher compression ratios, some
manufacturers of high-performing late-model vehicles design their engines to use copper/nickel
plugs as original equipment. Additionally, copper/nickel plugs are best suited to engines built before
high-energy distributor ignition systems became common in the 1970s.

Halogen Headlamps

Halogen bulbs used halogen elements such as iodine and bromine inside the bulb instead of inert
gasses like conventional bulbs did. This was another big leap forward, because halogen gas and
tungsten filaments combine to produce a chemical reaction called the “halogen cycle”. The main
benefit of this was evaporated tungsten was re-deposited on the filament instead of blackening the
glass part of the bulb. Filaments lasted a lot longer, and they stayed bright over time because the
blackening effect didn’t occur.

94 | E-Sales Guide CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO CONTENTS

For this halogen cycle reaction to take place, bulbs must operate at higher temperatures. Thus,
halogen bulbs are made of fused quartz glass which has a very high melting point and much higher
tensile strength. Also known as quartz-halogen lights, the higher temperatures these bulbs reach

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
allows them to produce more light from the same amount of power.

Key Highlights:

• Conventional technology
• Consumes more battery power
• Sufficient illumination with yellowish shade
• Bulky in construction
• Halogens have limited life

LED Headlamps

LED – Light-emitting diode (LED) is a two-lead semiconductor – a material that releases photons of
light when charge is applied. When a suitable voltage is applied to the leads, electrons can
recombine with electron holes within the device, releasing energy in the form of photons (light). The
colour of the light (corresponding to the energy of the photon) is determined by the energy band
gap of the semiconductor.

95 | E-Sales Guide CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO CONTENTS

Benefits:

• LEDs use only 50% less electricity than conventional incandescent lamps and have a far

AUTOMOBILE TECHNOLOGIES
greater service life
• Faster illumination compared to conventional lamps thus reducing reaction time for trailing
traffic (in case of LED tail lamps)
• Light produced is very similar to sunlight and is gentle to the eyes
• Particularly in daylight, the use of LED DRLs ensure good visibility for a fraction of the output
of the entire lighting system

Depending on the model, LEDs can be used as daytime running lights, brake lights, indicator lights
and headlights. For headlights, LEDs are equipped with reflectors or projectors.

Key Highlights:

• Modern technology
• Consumes less battery power
• Brighter illumination with daylight like shade
• Compact and robust in construction
• LEDs are long lasting

Projector Headlamp
Uses a projector lens in front of a Halogen or LED bulb. The lens acts as a magnifying glass to
increase brightness of light beam. Helps the beam focus in the throw of light.

Advantages:

• Focused illumination for enhanced visibility

Bajaj Patented Technologies
We at Bajaj Auto Ltd dedicate ourselves to creating new technologies incorporated in our products
that deliver power with fuel efficiency, continually delighting end users. Self-reliance in all aspects

BAJAJ TECHNOLOGIES
lead to technological breakthroughs without compromises and at an affordable cost.

Here are the key patented technologies which make Bajaj motorcycles the best.

Twin Spark DTS-i Technology

Bajaj’s patented technology, DTS-i - stands for Digital Twin Spark Ignition. This essentially uses 2
spark plugs in the cylinder head coupled with a digital ignition system to augment & exploit lean
burn characteristics for faster combustion. Both the spark plugs are strategically positioned to burn
the complete mixture.

DTS-i provides more torque, reduced tail pipe emissions and improved mileage.

Let’s consider an example

You have two stacks of leaves. You set fire on the first stack from just one side. On the second stack,
you set the fire from two sides. Which of the two stacks will burn quicker?

The dried leaves are burnt faster using 2 matchsticks at appropriate places. Bajaj patented DTS-i
technology also works on the similar principle.

99 | E-Sales Guide CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO CONTENTS

The DTS-i engine burns the mixture 26% faster than the single spark engine. The ignition timing is
controlled by Intelligent CDI unit which monitor the engine speed, temperature and throttle
position. The firing of the spark plug is controlled at different speed so that air-fuel mixture burns
optimally.

BAJAJ TECHNOLOGIES
Triple Spark DTS-i Technology

In the Bajaj DTS-i (Digital Triple Spark Ignition) engine we have three spark plugs to ignite the air-
fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. The centre positioned spark plug is called master plug and
other spark plug positioned on the side are called slave plug are strategically positioned to burn the
complete mixture. World’s 1st Triple Spark 4-Valve Engine. 4-valve head ensures that the machine
gulps in huge quantities of air and 3 spark plugs burn all the charge just as quickly.

It delivers high power and torque with better fuel efficiency.

Let’s get back to the stack of leaves example. Now if we have a third stack which set on fire from
three directions, which of the three stacks would burn the fastest?

The leaves are burnt faster by using three matchsticks at appropriate places. Triple Spark DTS-i
works on similar principle.

The DTS-i engine burns the mixture 27% faster than the Digital Twin Spark Ignition engine
technology. The ignition timing is controlled by Intelligent CDI unit which monitor the engine speed,
temperature and throttle position. The firing of the spark plug is controlled at different speed so that
air-fuel mixture burns optimally.

ExhausTEC

BAJAJ TECHNOLOGIES
T.E.C in ExhausTEC stands for Torque Expansion Chamber - a tuned box which functions as a
resonator which is optimally and unobtrusively placed in the exhaust system of the vehicle. It
enables the engine to produce more torque in the low to mid-range RPMs of the engine.

During low RPM the engine is not able to produce enough vacuum to suck in the air-fuel mixture
inside the combustion chamber. Due to which the engine is unable to produce enough power for the
bike. The ExhausTEC small resonator is fitted on the header pipe of the exhaust. It creates vacuum at
the exhaust valve which sucks in the more air-fuel mixture when the inlet valve opens and at the
same time as the air-fuel mixture enters the combustion chamber it also pushes out the exhaust
gases.

It provides better low to mid-range torque for enhanced performance characteristics.

SNS Suspension

BAJAJ TECHNOLOGIES
SNS stands for Spring-in-Spring, patented by Bajaj Auto.

An engineering break through that utilizes 2 co-axial springs mounted on a shock absorber at the
rear in a twin shock set up that helps in delivering a comfortable ride on any terrain. Internal spring
is used to absorbs minor bumps and support the load while the external spring absorb bigger road
bumps. It combines the benefits of long travel suspension and ability to quickly react to varied road
surfaces especially for the utility range of motorcycles.

It provides better riding comfort, low cost and better load carrying capacity.

BS6

CLICK HERE TO GO BACK TO CONTENTS

BS6
BS6 stands for Bharat Stage 6 emission norms. BS6 is implemented by Govt. of India to regulate the
pollution emitted by vehicles. Compared to BS4, BS6 emission standards are stricter. BS6-compliant
two-wheelers limit the emission of three gases – Carbon Monoxide (CO), Hydrocarbon (HC) and

BS6
Nitrogen Oxide (NOx). Permissible levels of CO reduced from 1.970gm/km to 1.0gm/km, of NOx
reduced from 0.20gm/km to 0.06gm/km and of HC reduced from 0.20gm/km to 0.06gm/km. With
the addition of EI and FI technology, the engine has become smoother. Performance figures largely
remain unaltered. Bajaj Auto has introduced a unique Electronic Injection (EI) system on bikes
