1 a) Discuss the statement in context of Indian Condition [04] CO1 L2


“Industry must develop their own water supplies as well
as waste treatments”?
(1mks each for 4 point)

b) Enumerate the various tests that are carried out in [06] CO1 L2
examination of drinking water in laboratories & explain
the significance of each of them?

c) Following is the census data of a Pimpri Chinchwad [06] CO1 L3


Municipal Corporation. Calculate prospective
population in the year 2040 by incremental increase
method:

2 a) Alandi city council wants to set up a water treatment [08] CO3 L3
plant to treat 1.5 MLD of water. Design a sedimentation
tank with detention time of 3 hrs, and flow through
velocity 0.7 mm/min. Consider the depth of tank as 3 m
& 0.5 m as freeboard. Also, Find the overflow rate.

b) Differnciate between SSF & RSF with reference to [06] CO3 L4


1. Rate of filtration, 2. Filter media of sand, 3. Loss of
head, 4. Method & Period of cleaning, 5. Under
drainage system, and 6. Efficiency

c) Calculate the amount of bleaching powder required in [06] CO3 L3


kg per day for 10 MLD of water. The filtered water
exerts a chlorine demand of 0.6mg/lit to leave residual
chlorine of 0.2 mg/lit. Chlorine available from bleaching
powder is 40%.

3 a) Explain the application of SCADA in water distribution [04] CO3 L2


and monitoring.

b) Describe the various layouts or distribution networks in [10] CO3 L2
a water supply system with their advantages and
disadvantages.
