I would go for continuous assessments, since it’s more likely to reinforce what you just learned and
therefore retain it better, than tests where you’ve forgotten half of what you were taught and have to
struggle to remember it or re-study it.
Continuous assessments may take too much time out of the learning process. It will then be difficult to
slower students and most probably bore the curious and motivated students.
End-of-term exams will require cramming and memorizing for the most part. The overall results are not a
true and genuine indication of the quality of the teaching and of the learning. It is difficult to students who
are going through a difficult time (health, emotional, traumatic, fatigue, etc.). I have seen fail due to lack of
sleep, cold, performance anxiety and many other traumatic events such as break-ups, loved one’s illness,
etc.
Finally - I’m sure it has to be for example, continuous assessments followed by an occasional test to
cover everything up to that point might be best of all. This is what would work best for me - but we all learn
differently.
