ABOUT ME
Personal Statement
My interest in Mathematics dates back to my high school years in advanced level when I
was introduced to the notion of a limit which arises in solving the problem of finding the
gradient of a curve at a point. In the maze of equations and functions, differentiation
emerged as my beacon of clarity. Its power to unveil the hidden slopes of curves, small
changes in variables, and rates of change in variables captivated me and this sparked my
curiosity and inspired me to pursue further studies in Mathematics.
In 2015, I was awarded a fully funded scholarship by the government of Uganda based on
academic merit to pursue the degree of Bachelor of Science with Education at Makerere
University and I majored in Mathematics. My experience at Makerere University was a
whirlwind of excellence. Surrounded by cutting-edge facilities, top-tier educators, and a
cohort of brilliant minds from across Africa, my time there was an immersion into
unparalleled learning and academic prowess.
I leveraged state-of-the-art facilities and tapped into the expertise of exceptional
professors at Makerere University’s Department of Mathematics to delve deep into the
world of mathematics.
I am currently a prospective Erasmus mundus scholar and my pursuit of one of the
Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degrees(MathMods, RealMaths or InterMaths), offered by
the consortia is inspired by the following reasons:
• There is a growing demand for applied mathematicians in most parts of the world
because today fields like biology, social sciences, medicine, pharmacy, engineering,
manufacturing, material science, big data, etc. rely on applied mathematicians to
develop more refined and adequate models to solve real-world problems.
• To satisfy the need of experts that can apply rigorous mathematical modelling and
computational techniques to solve problems in all engineering fields.
• To prepare for a career in research as well as in private enterprises, in particular in
industrial engineering, manufacturing, pharmaceutics, biomedical industry so as to
develop mathematical skills that are relevant to a broad range of interdisciplinary
fields like mathematical modelling, scientific computing, control and optimization
and stochastic modelling.
Academic Excellence:
1 / 14
Throughout my academic journey, I have consistently excelled in mathematics. I have
embraced advanced mathematical concepts with enthusiasm, and my achievements
reflect my unwavering commitment to the field. I scored distinction 1(highest grade) in
Uganda certificate of education(UCE) national mathematics examinations, A(highest
grade) in Uganda advanced certificate of Education(UACE) national mathematics
examinations and I obtained eighteen(18) A’s and B’s out of the 23 mathematics course
units which I did as I pursued my Bachelor’s degree of science with education at
Makerere university and I consistently ranked within the top 5% of the mathematics class.

I actively participate in the out reach activities of the Uganda mathematical society like
the annual national mathematics contest and the Math run. The Uganda Mathematical
Society is a prominent professional organization dedicated to promoting and advancing
mathematics in Uganda founded with the aim of fostering excellence in mathematical
research, education, and application, the society brings together mathematicians,
researchers, educators, and enthusiasts from various institutions and sectors.
One of the primary objectives of the Uganda Mathematical Society is to encourage and
support the development of mathematical talent and expertise in Uganda. We strive to
create a vibrant mathematical community by organizing conferences, workshops, and
seminars that facilitate knowledge sharing, collaboration, and networking among
mathematicians. These events serve as platforms for exchanging ideas, presenting
research findings, and discussing advancements in different branches of mathematics.
