AI-assisted art refers to artwork that is created with the help of Artificial Intelligence technology.
This can include using AI to create 3D models, assist with animation, and generate new color palettes. The
process of creating AI-assisted art involves using AI tools to assist the human artist in the creative process.
One of the benefits of AI-assisted art is that it can speed up the creative process and improve
efficiency. For example, an artist can use AI to generate a 3D model of an object, which can then be used as
a reference for a painting or sculpture. This can save the artist a significant amount of time that would
otherwise be spent creating the 3D model by hand.
Another benefit of AI-assisted art is that it can help artists to explore new possibilities and techniques
that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to achieve. For example, an artist can use AI to generate a
new color palette, which can inspire new ideas and give the artist a fresh perspective on their work.
In the entertainment industry, AI is used to assist in animation, such as facial recognition and motion
capture. This technology allows animators to create more realistic and accurate animations, which can
enhance the viewer’s experience.

The implications of AI image generation are far-reaching and could impact everything from film to graphic
novels and more. Children’s illustrators were quick to raise concerns about the technology on social media.
Among them is author and illustrator Rob Biddulph, who says that AI-generated art “is the exact opposite
of what I believe art to be. Fundamentally, I have always felt that art is all about translating something that
you feel internally into something that exists externally. Whatever form it takes, be it a sculpture, a piece of
music, a piece of writing, a performance, or an image, true art is about the creative process much more than
it’s about the final piece. And simply pressing a button to generate an image is not a creative process.”

Many artists claim that AI apps are stealing their content and calling for stricter copyright laws to
keep up with AI-generated art. After much backlash from photographers and artists, Midjourney CEO
David Holz revealed that his firm did not have permission to utilize hundreds of millions of photographs to
train its AI image generator. Holz has defined his image-generating subscription service as a “search
engine” that aggregates images from the internet, a claim he uses to argue against copyright infringements.
Conversely, OpenAI has been cautious about DALL·E 2 so far, refusing to publish either the code or
the data used to train the tool. Meanwhile, Stable Diffusion has decided to release its source code and
disclose all the information about the database they trained its AI model on. With this move, the text-to-
image tool revealed that thousands of artists’ works had been involuntarily included in its dataset.
