SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN PHYSICAL EDUCATION GRADE 7

I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of guidelines and principles in exercise
program design to achieve personal fitness
B. Performance Standards The learner designs an individualized exercise program to achieve personal
fitness
C. Learning Competency Describes the nature and background of the sport
(PE7GS-Id-5)

Specific Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. Describe the history of swimming.
b. Identify the different basic pieces equipment used in swimming.
c. Demonstrate the different types of swimming strokes.

II. SUBJECT MATTER


Topic: Introduction to Individual Sports: Swimming
References: Physical Education Grade 7 Quarter 1- Module 3 pp. 19-24
Materials: Video clips of different swimming strokes, photos, laptop, and speaker

III. PROCEDURES
A. Preliminary Activities (2 minutes)
a. Prayer
b. Greetings
c. Checking the Surroundings
d. Checking of the Attendance
B. Review (2 minutes)
The teacher will ask the following questions:
1. What did we discuss last meeting?
2. Can you give examples of (whatever was discussed)?
C. Motivation/Engagement Activities (2 mins)
The teacher will facilitate a game called “Guess and Spell”.
GUESS AND SPELL. The class should be divided into two groups, and each group will select one
representative. Every representative will identify the image displayed on the screen and correctly spell its
name. If they make the appropriate guess but fail to memorize the spelling, the opposite groups will get an
opportunity to answer. The first group to get the correct answer will be given prices. Orient the class about
the pictures that are key points for the day's discussion.
D. Establishing purpose/Stating Objectives (1 minute)
The teacher will state the lesson objectives.
E. Presentation
Lesson 1- Activity 1. DIVING INTO THE PAST. (5 mins)
The discussion about swimming will be introduced by the teacher. She will begin by providing a short
definition of swimming before presenting a brief overview of sports history in the Philippines. After the
discussion, selected students will respond to the question, "Why is it beneficial to know and understand the

history of swimming?”. The teacher will then provide the students with some brief information about the
topic.
Lesson 2- Activity 2. RECOGNIZE ME. (3 mins)
Show the learners the following functions on the screen, and ask them to identify the equipment that
each item describes by analyzing the functions. They are free to select the equipment from the box.

1. It protects the eyes from water and other irritants, such as chlorine, salt, and bacteria. It also helps
swimmers see clearly underwater and be aware of their surroundings.
2. It offers protection for your hair and influences your performance. It also prevents hair from floating
and creating a mess.
3. It is used to signal the start of a swimming race.
4. It is mainly used to improve kicking technique and increase leg strength and endurance.
5. These are tight-fitting garments worn for swimming, especially the one-piece garment worn by women
and girls.
6. It refers to men’s bathing suits.
7. It is an automatic electronic timing device used in swimming competitions.

The teacher will provide inputs on the following basic pieces of equipment used in swimming.
Lesson 3- Activity 3. ART OF SWIMMING STROKES (7 mins)
The instructor will begin the discussion by using pictures and video presentations to show the various
swimming strokes. The teacher will give the students instructions to form four groups and demonstrate the
given swimming strokes after the lecture. For their tasks, the groups will have three minutes to prepare, and
each group will have two minutes to present. Once the activity is finished, the teacher will ask the class and
provide feedback to them.
F. Generalization (2 mins)
The teacher will ask the students to complete the following open- ended statements:
• What are their takeaways for today's lesson?
• What are the different basic pieces of equipment used in swimming?
• What are the four swimming strokes?
G. Application (2 minutes)
The teacher will ask:
• As students, why do you think it is important to know how to swim?
H. Evaluation
The teacher will give activity sheets for the evaluation.
