 Demonstrate an understanding of factors that affect climate, and the effects of
changing climate and how to adapt accordingly
B. Performance The learners shall be able to:
Standard:  Participate in activities that reduce risks and lessen effects of climate change
C. Learning The learners are expected to:
Competency:  Explain how different factors affect the climate of an area S9ES-IIId-30
D. Specific Objectives:  Differentiate climate from weather;
 Explain how latitude affects climate.

C. Presenting In Grade 7, you have learned that the earth’s axis is not perpendicular to the
examples/instance plane of its orbit. The shape of the earth resulted in the uneven heating of the
s of the new lesson earth’s surface. The equator receives much of the radiant energy released by the
sun, so places near the equator have a warm climate. The areas closer to the
poles receive less amount of heat because the angle of sunlight becomes smaller.

Q4. Why are the coldest places on Earth found near the poles?
Q5. Why are places with high temperatures found at the equator?

H. Making You have noticed that most of the sun’s rays strike vertically in places near the
generalizations & equator.
abstractions about This makes the temperature higher in these areas, resulting in a warm climate.
the lesson Places that are not always vertically hit by the sun’s rays experience cold
climates. As the latitude increases, the smaller the angle of the sun’s rays strikes
the surface. Therefore, when the area is farther from the equator, the air
temperature is lower. When the place is closer to the equator, the air
temperature is higher Elaborat
e
You have probably experienced waking up on a rainy morning but spending
the rest of the day sweating because of the sun’s glaring heat. Changes in the
atmospheric condition over a brief period such as a day or a week are
weather. These changes are part of a larger pattern of atmospheric conditions
called climate. Climate is the general pattern of the weather that occurs for a
region over
several years. Climate determines what type of houses people build in a
particular region, the plants and animals that inhabit a location, and even the
livelihood of the people and community.
