competencies. Additionally, this endeavor will be advantageous for the participating
students as they stand to acquire earnings that can serve as financial assistance,
catering to their needs.
The team concluded that during last year, month of December, the people within
the area have been very excessive in the candied fruits since they are very fond of
Korean and Chinese dramas, and it has also become a trend on Tiktok. The team
witnessed the merging of different business and the creation of different products that
are not usually found within the community. Upon the information(s) that the team will
gather and with the help of SWOT analysis, the team are able to identify strengths,
weaknesses, opportunities, and the threats for the future business the team will venture.
Thus, the team concluded that this proposal outlines in creating a new form of
candied fruit that locals are not accustomed into. This is generated through group
planning and observation of the locale. Furthermore, the team decided to set forth for a
business about candied fruits which is the “Tanghulu”.
Tanghulu is the type of candied fruit which is not very hard to learn and try. It is a
fresh fruit skewers covered in a crunchy sugar coating. Tanghulu is made up of fruits,
granulated sugar, and water. These are the following easy steps in making Tanghulu:
First, prepare the basics. Start by washing the fruits and let them dry. Next, make sugar
syrup. Add the granulated sugar, and ¼ cup of water to a saucepan and stir gently. Boil
the mixture and continue heating and medium-high heat until the syrup reaches 300F.
Then, skewer the fruit without twisting any pieces. The team mixed a variety of fruits on
each skewer. When the syrup is ready, remove the pan from the heat. After that, coat
the fruit with sugar syrup. Dip the fruit into the sugar mixture to coat it completely. Once
done, shake the excess syrup, put the skewer on the container with water and ice, and
allow to harden it for 10 minutes. Repeat the same process with each skewer. There are
tips and variations to achieve a perfect Tanghulu. First, use fresh and firm fruits, this will
ensure that the fruits hold its shape and doesn’t become mushy when coated with
syrup. Second, Once the syrup is ready, move quickly to coat the fruit with the hot
mixture before it begins to harden. This will ensure the syrup doesn’t cool down and
become too thick, which makes coating the fruit easier.
A traditional Chinese dessert that has gained popularity recently is tanghulu.
Celebrated with tanghulu shaped like dolls, dipped in chocolate and roasted sesame
seeds, or fashioned like hearts, festivals are celebrated throughout northern China.
Since the summer heat might melt the candy shell, tanghulu is best savored in the
winter. For many, tanghulu is a sign of Chinese New Year. Good fortune is also
represented by the glossy crimson appearance (Yang, M. 2022). Tanghulu is served
with eight or ten pieces of fruit on a bamboo stick. The reason this street food is so
popular in China is that tanghulu vendors frequently load hundreds of them onto
bicycles and ride them around the city to sell. The vibrant, fresh fruit is coated in a
crackly, sweet shell. It's a delightfully refreshing snack that's also interesting to bite into.
Whole fruits is what you should select. Any cut side or moisture will prevent the sugar
from adhering to the fruit (Sang, J.2022).
