Disaster risk management involves the systematic development and

application of policies, strategies and practices to minimize

vulnerabilities and disaster risks in order to avoid or limit the adverse

impacts of hazards on lives, economic and social developments in a

country.

Sustainable development, poverty reduction, good governance and

disaster risk reduction are mutually supportive objectives, and in order

to meet challenges in the implementation of the national development

plan, accelerated efforts must be made to build the necessary capacities

at community and national levels to manage and reduce risk.

The main objective of disaster preparedness is to ensure that in times of

disaster, appropriate administrative, legislative and technical measures

including procedures and resources are in place to assist those afflicted

by the disaster and enable them to cope. The aim of disaster

preparedness are, to minimize the adverse effects of a hazard through

effective precautionary measures is to ensure timely, appropriate and

efficient organization and delivery of emergency relief services.

Disasters and emergencies are too often regarded as abnormal events,


divorced from "normal life".

In reality, however, disasters and emergencies are fundamental

reflections of normal life. They are consequences of the ways societies

structure themselves economically, interact socially and sustain

relationship between the decision makers.


Natural disasters and weather-related damage account for an annual bill

of $23.46 billion in the United States. Most homeowners are counseled

to practice safety at home by protecting investments, watching over

loved ones, opting for healthy choices, and making responsible decisions.

To some degree, those are all things you have a certain level of control

with the implementation of the preparedness plan effectively. The chief

aim of disaster response is to immediately press in the emergency

services to maintain or improve the life, health, and property of the

community.Planning measures: Cities and locales can be planned and

built in the safest way possible. Houses and workplaces should be built
away from the areas that are most vulnerable to the effects of natural

disasters. Infrastructure should be built with the risk of natural disaster

in mind

Prevention measures are employed to eliminate or reduce the incidence

of severity. Few such measures include land use planning, preventing

habitation in risk zones, disaster resistant buildings, finding ways to

reduce risk even before the disaster strikes and community awareness

and education.
