INTRODUCTORY RITES

ENTRANCE SONG
When everything is ready, the procession moves through the church to the altar in the usual
way. A deacon carries the Book of the Gospels and is followed by other deacons, if present. He
is followed by the concelebrating priests, and, finally, by the Bishop. When they come to the
altar they make the required reverence, and each one goes to his assigned place.

Meanwhile, the entrance antiphon with its psalm or another suitable liturgical song is sung.

GREETING
After the entrance song, the Bishop and the faithful remain standing and make the sign of the
cross, as the Bishop says:

I n the name of the Father, and the Son,

and the Holy Spirit.
The people answer:
Amen.

Then the Bishop, facing the people, extends his hands and greets all present:

P eace be with you.

The people answer:
And with your spirit.

The Bishop, or deacon, or other suitable minister may briefly introduce the Mass of the day.

1
INTRODUCTION AND PENITENTIAL RITE

The Bishop invites the people to recall their sins and repent of them in silence.

B rethren,
let us acknowledge our sins,
and so prepare ourselves
to celebrate the sacred mysteries.
A pause for silent reflection follows.

After a moment of silence, the Bishop leads the Confiteor:

I confess to almighty God

and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
And, striking their breast, they say:
through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;
Then they continue:
therefore I ask blessed Mary ever-Virgin,
all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.

The Bishop says the absolution:

May almighty God have mercy on us,

forgive us our sins,
and bring us to everlasting life.
The people answer:
Amen.

2
KYRIE
The invocation Lord, have mercy, follows:

V. Lord, have mercy. R. Lord, have mercy..

V. Christ, have mercy. R. Christ, have mercy.
V. Lord, have mercy. R. Lord, have mercy.

COLLECT

Afterwards the Bishop, with hands joined, sings or says:

Let us pray:

The Bishop and people pray silently for a while.

Then the Bishop extends his hands and sings or says the opening prayer.

L ord our God,

you made
the Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary
the home of your eternal Word
and the sanctuary of the Holy Spirit.
Give us a heart that is free from sin
and attentive to your will,
that, faithful to your commandments,
we may love you above all things
and seek to help others in their need.

Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,

who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God, for ever and ever.

The people answer:

Amen.

LITURGY OF THE WORD

FIRST READING
The reader goes to the ambo and proclaims the first reading. All sit and listen.

Jdt 13:17-20; 15:9

You are the highest honor of our race.

A reading from the Book of Judith

All the people were greatly astonished.

They bowed down and worshiped God, saying with one accord,
“Blessed are you, our God,
who today have brought to naught the enemies of your people.”
Then Uzziah said to her:
“Blessed are you, daughter, by the Most High God,
above all the women on earth;
and blessed be the LORD God,
the creator of heaven and earth,
who guided your blow at the head of the chief of our enemies.
Your deed of hope will never be forgotten
by those who tell of the might of God.
May God make this redound to your everlasting honor,
rewarding you with blessings,
because you risked your life
when your people were being oppressed,
and you averted our disaster,
walking uprightly before our God.”
And all the people answered, “Amen! Amen!”

When they had visited her, all with one accord blessed her, saying:
“You are the glory of Jerusalem,
the surpassing joy of Israel;
you are the splendid boast of our people.”

The Word of the Lord

The people answer:

Thanks be to God.

4
RESPONSORIAL PSALM

The cantor sings or recites the psalm, and the people respond.

Lk 1:46-48a, 48b-49, 50-51, 52-53, 54-55

R. (49) THE ALMIGHTY HAS DONE GREAT THINGS FOR ME.

My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;

my spirit rejoices in God my savior.
For he has looked upon his handmaid’s lowliness;

R. THE ALMIGHTY HAS DONE GREAT THINGS FOR ME.

Behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed.

The Mighty One has done great things for me,
and holy is his name.

R. THE ALMIGHTY HAS DONE GREAT THINGS FOR ME.

The Lord’s mercy is from age to age

to those who fear him.
He has shown might with his arm,
dispersed the arrogant of mind and heart.

R. THE ALMIGHTY HAS DONE GREAT THINGS FOR ME.

He has thrown down the rulers from their thrones

but lifted up the lowly.
The hungry he has filled with good things;
the rich he has sent away empty.

R. THE ALMIGHTY HAS DONE GREAT THINGS FOR ME.

The Lord has helped Israel his servant,

remembering his mercy,
according to his promise to our ancestors,
to Abraham and to his descendants for ever.

R. THE ALMIGHTY HAS DONE GREAT THINGS FOR ME.

5
GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
The Gospel Acclamation follows.

Alleluia, alleluia.

Blessed are you, O Virgin Mary,

who bore the Son of the eternal Father.

Alleluia, alleluia.

Meanwhile, if incense is used, the Bishop puts some incense in the censer. Then the deacon who
is to proclaim the gospel bows before the Bishop and in a low voice asks the blessing.
Father, give me your blessing.

The Bishop says in a low voice:

The Lord be in your heart and on your lips
that you may worthily proclaim his gospel.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son,
 and of the Holy Spirit.

The deacon answers:

Amen.

GOSPEL

Then the deacon goes to the ambo. He is accompanied by ministers with incense and candles.
He sings or says:
The Lord be with you.
The people answer:
And with your spirit.

The deacon sings or says:

A reading from the holy Gospel
according to St. Luke
11:27-28

He makes the sign of the cross on the book, and then on his forehead, lips and breast.

The people respond:

Glory to you, O Lord.

6
The deacon incenses the book, and proclaims the gospel.

While Jesus was speaking,

a woman from the crowd called out and said to him,
“Blessed is the womb that carried you
and the breasts at which you nursed.”
He replied,
“Rather, blessed are those
who hear the word of God and observe it.”
At the end of the gospel, the deacon adds:
The Gospel of the Lord.
All respond:
Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

HOMILY
The Bishop delivers his homily.

7
UNIVERSAL PRAYER
Then follows the Universal Prayer.

The Bishop: The blessed Virgin Mary is given to us as our mother

and our example in living out God's will:
let us join her in prayer to our Father and Creator.

LORD, IN YOUR MERCY, HEAR OUR PRAYER.

For the holy Church,
that she may grow towards the perfection of Mary,
our destiny and our hope,
let us pray to the Lord:

For our world,

that through prayer and penance it may enter an age of peace,
the triumph of Mary’s heart,
let us pray to the Lord:

For all of our benefactors and collaborators that their generosity

may be rewarded by the Lord who cannot be outdone in generosity,
let us pray to the Lord:

For the residents and staff of Munting Tahanan ng Nazareth,

that this shelter may be a mirror of God's unconditional love,
may the sick be cared for and be given a haven in this world,
let us pray to the Lord:

For the deceased, especially those who have resided in this haven,
may their souls be welcomed in the eternal Kingdom promised to us by
Jesus, let us pray to the Lord:

The Bishop: Father and Creator,

hear us as we pray
with the Immaculate ever-virgin Mary,
chosen before the world was made,
to be the Mother of Jesus your Son,
who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
The people acclaim:
Amen.

8
LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST

PREPARATION OF THE ALTAR

When all this has been done, the Offertory Song begins. Meanwhile, the ministers place the
corporal, the purificator, the chalice, the pall, and the Missal on the altar.

PREPARATION OF THE GIFTS

It is desirable that the faithful express their participation by making an offering, bringing
forward bread and wine for the celebration of the Eucharist and perhaps other gifts to relieve
the needs of the Church and of the poor.

The Bishop, standing at the altar, takes the paten with the bread and holds it slightly raised
above the altar with both hands, saying in a low voice:

B lessed are you, Lord God of all creation,

for through your goodness we have received
the bread we offer you:
fruit of the earth and work of human hands,
it will become for us the bread of life.

Then he places the paten with the bread on the corporal.

The people may acclaim:

Blessed be God for ever.
The Bishop then takes the chalice and holds it slightly raised above the altar with both hands,
saying in a low voice:

B lessed are you, Lord God of all creation,

for through your goodness we have received
the wine we offer you:
fruit of the vine and work of human hands
it will become our spiritual drink.
Then he places the chalice on the corporal.
The people may acclaim:
Blessed be God for ever.
The Bishop incenses the offerings, the cross, and the altar. The Deacon then incenses the Bishop,
the concelebrats and the people.

Standing at the middle of the altar, facing the people, extending and then joining his hands,
9
he says:
Pray, brothers and sisters,
that my sacrifice and yours
may be acceptable to God,
the almighty Father.

The people rise and reply:

May the Lord accept the sacrifice at your hands
for the praise and glory of his name,
for our good
and the good of all his holy Church.

PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGS

With hands extended, the Bishop sings or says the prayer over the gifts.

L ord, look with favor on the gifts we bring

as we celebrate this memorial
of the Blessed Virgin Mary;
grant that, as we follow her example,
we may faithfully cherish and continually ponder
the riches of grace that we owe to your Son.
Who lives and reigns for ever and ever.
The people answer:
Amen.

10
THE EUCHARISTIC PRAYER
Then the Bishop begins the Eucharistic Prayer.

Extending his hands, he says:

The Lord be with you.
The people: And with your spirit.

The Bishop, raising his hands, continues:

Lift up your hearts.
The people: We lift them up to the Lord.
The Bishop, with hands extended, adds:
Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.
The people: It is right and just.

The Bishop, with hands extended, continues the Preface.

I It is truly right and just, our duty and our salvation,

always and everywhere to give you thanks,
Lord, holy Father, almighty and eternal God,
through Christ our Lord.

For you gave the Blessed Virgin Mary

a wise and obedient heart,
that she might perfectly carry out your will,
a new and gentle heart,
in which you were well pleased
and on which you inscribed
the law of the New Covenant.

You gave her an undivided and pure heart,

that she might be worthy
to be the Virgin Mother of your Son
and to rejoice to see you for ever.

You gave her a steadfast and watchful heart,

so that she could endure without fear the sword of sorrow
and await in faith the Resurrection of her Son.

11
With the whole company of the Angels
we sing your praises
in their canticle of joy:
At the end of the Preface he joins his hands and concludes the Preface with the people, singing
or saying aloud:
Holy, Holy, Holy Lord God of hosts.
Heaven and earth are full of your glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER III

The Bishop, with hands extended, says:
You are indeed Holy, O Lord,
and all you have created
rightly gives you praise,
for through your Son our Lord Jesus Christ,
by the power and working of the Holy Spirit,
you give life to all things and make them holy,
and you never cease
to gather a people to yourself,
so that from the rising of the sun to its setting
a pure sacrifice may be offered to your name.
He joins his hands and, holding them extended over the offerings, with the concelebrants say:
Therefore, O Lord, we humbly implore you:
by the same Spirit graciously make holy
these gifts we have brought
to you for consecration,
He joins his hands and makes the Sign of the Cross once over the bread and chalice together,
saying:
that they may become the Body and  Blood
of your Son our Lord Jesus Christ,
He joins his hands.
at whose command we celebrate these mysteries.

12
In the formulas that follow, the words of the Lord should be pronounced clearly and distinctly,
as the nature of these words requires.
For on the night he was betrayed
He takes the bread and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:
he himself took bread,
and giving you thanks he said the blessing,
broke the bread and gave it to his disciples,
saying:
He bends slightly.
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU,
AND EAT OF IT,
FOR THIS IS MY BODY,
WHICH WILL BE GIVEN UP FOR YOU.
He shows the consecrated host to the people, places it again on the paten, and genuflects in
adoration.

After this, he continues:

In a similar way, when supper was ended,
He takes the chalice and, holding it slightly raised above the altar, continues:
he took the chalice,
and giving you thanks he said the blessing,
and gave the chalice to his disciples, saying:

He bends slightly.
TAKE THIS, ALL OF YOU,
AND DRINK FROM IT,
FOR THIS IS THE CHALICE OF MY BLOOD,
THE BLOOD OF THE NEW
AND ETERNAL COVENANT,
WHICH WILL BE POURED OUT
FOR YOU AND FOR ALL
FOR THE FORGIVENESS OF SINS.
DO THIS IN MEMORY OF ME.
He shows the chalice to the people, places it on the corporal, and genuflects in adoration.

13
Then he says:
The mystery of faith.
And the people continue, acclaiming:
We proclaim your Death, O Lord,
and profess your Resurrection
until you come again.

Then the Bishop, with hands extended, says:

Therefore, O Lord, as we celebrate the memorial

of the saving Passion of your Son,
his wondrous Resurrection
and Ascension into heaven,
and as we look forward to his second coming,
we offer you in thanksgiving
this holy and living sacrifice.

Look, we pray, upon the oblation of your Church

and, recognizing the sacrificial Victim
by whose death you willed to reconcile us to yourself,
grant that we, who are nourished
by the Body and Blood of your Son
and filled with his Holy Spirit,
may become one body, one spirit in Christ.

Concelebrant:
May he make of us an eternal offering to you,
so that we may obtain
an inheritance with your elect,
especially with the most blessed Virgin Mary,
Mother of God,
with blessed Joseph, her spouse,
with your blessed Apostles and glorious Martyrs
with Saints Jacinta and Francisco Marto
and with all the Saints,
on whose constant intercession in your presence
we rely for unfailing help.

14
Concelebrant:
May this Sacrifice of our reconciliation,
we pray, O Lord,
advance the peace and salvation of all the world.
Be pleased to confirm in faith and charity
your pilgrim Church on earth,
with your servant Francis, our Pope
and Florentino, our Bishop,
the Order of Bishops, Presbyters, all the clergy,
and the entire people
you have gained for your own.

Listen graciously to the prayers of this family,

whom you have summoned before you:
in your compassion, O merciful Father,
gather to yourself all your children
scattered throughout the world.
Concelebrant:
To our departed brothers and sisters
and to all who were pleasing to you
at their passing from this life,
give kind admittance to your kingdom.
There we hope to enjoy for ever
the fullness of your glory
He joins his hands.
through Christ our Lord,
through whom you bestow on the world all that is good.
He takes the chalice and the paten with the host and raising both, together with the
concelebrants say:
Through him, and with him, and in him,
O God, almighty Father,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
all glory and honor is yours,
for ever and ever.
The people acclaim:
Amen.

15
COMMUNION RITE

LORD’S PRAYER
The Bishop sets down the chalice and paten and with hands joined sings or says:

A t the Savior’s command

and formed by divine teaching,
we dare to say:
He extends his hands and he continues, with the people:

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done
on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread,

and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.

With hands extended, the Bishop continues alone:

D eliver us, Lord, we pray, from every evil,

graciously grant peace in our days,
that, by the help of your mercy,
we may be always free from sin
and safe from all distress,
as we await the blessed hope
and the coming of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
He joins his hands.

16
DOXOLOGY
The people conclude the prayer, acclaiming:
For the kingdom,
the power and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

SIGN OF PEACE
Then the Bishop with hands extended, says aloud:
Lord Jesus Christ,
who said to your Apostles,
“Peace I leave you, my peace I give you,”
look not on our sins,
but on the faith of your Church,
and graciously grant her peace and unity
in accordance with your will.
He joins his hands.
Who live and reign forever and ever.
The people reply:
Amen.

The Bishop, turned towards the people, extending and then joining his hands, adds:
The peace of the Lord be with you always.

The people reply:

And with your spirit.
Then, the Deacon, adds:
Let us offer each other the sign of peace.
And all offer one another a sign, in keeping with local customs, that expresses peace,
communion, and charity.

17
Meanwhile the following is:
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,
have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,
have mercy on us.
Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,
grant us peace.

The invocation may even be repeated several times if the fraction is prolonged. Only the final
time, however, is grant us peace said.

The Bishop genuflects, takes the host and, holding it slightly raised above the paten or above
the chalice, while facing the people, says aloud:

B ehold the Lamb of God,

behold him who takes away
the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called
to the supper of the Lamb.
And together with the people he adds once:
Lord, I am not worthy
that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word
and my soul shall be healed.

COMMUNION SONG
As all go to receive communion, appropriate hymns are sung by the choir and people.

18
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
The Bishop, with hands joined, says:
Let us pray.
The Bishop extends his hands and prays

H aving been made partakers of eternal redemption,

we pray, O Lord,
that we, who commemorate the Mother of your Son,
may glory in the fullness of your grace
and experience its continued increase for our salvation.

Through Christ our Lord.

The people answer:
Amen.

19
CONCLUDING RITE

BLESSING

Then the dismissal takes place. The Bishop, facing the people and extending his hands, says:
The Lord be with you.
All reply: And with your spirit.

The Deacon or the Bishop:

Bow down for the blessing.

The Bishop:
May God,
who through the childbearing of the Blessed Virgin Mary
willed in his great kindness to redeem the human race,
be pleased to enrich you with his blessing.

All reply: Amen.

The Bishop:
May you know always
and everywhere the protection of her,
through whom you have been found worthy
to receive the author of life.

All reply: Amen.

The Bishop:
May you, who have devoutly gathered on this day,
carry away with you the gifts of spiritual joys
heavenly rewards.

All reply: Amen.

20
Then the Bishop receives the pastoral staff, and says:
May almighty God bless you,
making the Sign of the Cross over the people three times, he adds:
the Father,  and the Son, 
and the Holy  Spirit.

All reply: Amen.

The deacon, or the Bishop himself, with hands joined, sings or say:
Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life.
The people answer:
