10 Feburary 2024 : Day 1

Inauguration Ceremony and Survey on Family Health and Welfare Conducted by NSS
Volunteers

Introduction:
The National Service Scheme (NSS) plays a pivotal role in fostering community
development and social responsibility among youth. On the first day of the National Service
Scheme, an inauguration ceremony marked the commencement of a significant initiative
aimed at assessing family health and welfare in slum areas. This report encapsulates the
events of the inauguration ceremony and the subsequent survey conducted by NSS
volunteers.

Inauguration Ceremony:
The inauguration ceremony served as a beacon of hope and commitment to addressing
pressing issues within marginalized communities. It commenced with an invocation of
solidarity and purpose, highlighting the importance of collective efforts in promoting well-
being. Distinguished guests, including Dean, College of Fisheries, Dr. Malobica Das Trakroo
and all the worthy faculty members of the college, graced the occasion, emphasizing the
collaborative nature of the initiative.
A series of speeches underscored the significance of grassroots interventions in improving
family health and welfare. The keynote address emphasized the ethos of service and the
transformative potential inherent in volunteerism. NSS volunteers, brimming with enthusiasm
and dedication, pledged their commitment to the cause, embodying the spirit of empathy and
empowerment.

Survey on Family Health and Welfare:

Following the inauguration ceremony, NSS volunteers embarked on a comprehensive
survey to gauge the health and welfare status of families residing in Beni colony (Chara
Bank) and surrounding areas. Equipped with questionnaires and a spirit of empathy,
volunteers traversed through narrow alleys and humble dwellings, engaging with community
members with respect and compassion.
The survey encompassed various dimensions of family health and welfare, including access
to healthcare services, nutritional status, sanitation practices, and awareness of preventive
healthcare measures. Volunteers employed a participatory approach, encouraging dialogue
and active involvement to glean insights into the multifaceted challenges confronting families
in underserved communities.

Key Findings:
The survey unearthed several key findings shedding light on the prevailing realities in slum
areas:

•Healthcare Accessibility: A significant proportion of families faced barriers in accessing

healthcare services, primarily due to financial constraints and inadequate infrastructure.
•Nutritional Deficiencies: Malnutrition emerged as a pervasive concern, with a considerable
number of children and adults exhibiting signs of undernourishment.
•Sanitation Concerns: Substandard sanitation facilities exacerbated health risks, with limited
access to clean water and proper waste disposal mechanisms.
•Health Awareness: Despite the prevalence of health-related challenges, there existed a
palpable lack of awareness regarding preventive healthcare practices and disease
management strategies.

Conclusion:
The inauguration ceremony and subsequent survey exemplify the transformative potential of
collective action in addressing societal inequities. Through the dedicated efforts of NSS
volunteers, a foundation has been laid for targeted interventions aimed at enhancing family
health and welfare in underprivileged areas. Moving forward, sustained engagement and
collaboration with stakeholders will be imperative in effecting meaningful change and
fostering inclusive development.
As the sun set on the first day of the National Service Scheme, the echoes of solidarity
reverberated through the alleys of the slum, instilling a sense of hope and resilience in the
hearts of those entrusted with the noble task of service.
