In a small home, in the village of Busilac, lives the Jose family. Their life is peaceful
and simple. They plant trees and vegetables, which serve as their source of food,
and they also have plants that beautify their surroundings. They have animals like
a carabao that helps with farming and provides milk, as well as chickens for eggs, a
watchdog, and many others.
While resting one day, Mang Roger suddenly pondered about their situation. "I
have three children. I am just a poor farmer. My wife stays at home and takes care
of us. How can I support my children's education? If only I were wealthy, I could
provide all the needs of my children," Mang Roger dreamily thought to himself.
His children are diligent and helpful. Every Saturday, they all help out in the fields.
Mang Roger plows, his eldest child applies fertilizer, and the other two plant corn.
Meanwhile, his wife is busy cooking their meals. On Sundays, the family harvests
their vegetables to sell to their neighbors.
Some of their proudest moments are when their children are recognized for their
achievements in school. They are overjoyed when their children receive awards for
being among the brightest students in their classes.
Years passed, and their children graduated from high school with honors. Despite
their continued hardships, Mang Roger and Aling Esmen did not stop working hard
and praying, believing that while God provides mercy, it is up to them to take
action.
As time went by, they were surprised to find out that their children were about to
graduate from college, and they did so with distinction. Due to their excellent
records, their children easily found jobs. Rosa became a teacher, Rodel an
engineer, and Romeo a nurse.
"As the saying goes, 'With hardship comes ease,'" Mang Roger and Aling Esmen
said. "Thank you very much, dear God, for your help and the comfort you have
bestowed upon us," they added.
The family lived happily and cherished the success they had achieved. Now that
they are professionals, they are ready to become productive citizens of the
Philippines.
