Comparison Contrast Essay (title center align)

Refer to the Comparison Contrast Essay material in the PowerPoint document or the AE1
Module Unit 4 (pp. 81-110). Both of these materials are in Binusmaya. For the format, you
can follow the point-by-point method (slides 24-25 as a 5-paragraph essay) or the subject-by-
subject method (slides 26-27 as a 4-paragraph essay).
The point-by-point method can be done as in the format below:
Introductory paragraph – use funnel method (general to specific), dramatic entrance,
interesting fact, etc. The last sentence of the paragraph should be your thesis statement. The
paragraph should be about 12-15 sentences.
1st developmental paragraph. Begin with a topic sentence and controlling idea. The
paragraph should be about 15-20 sentences. Include examples (support) for the topic
sentence.
2nd developmental paragraph. Use a transitional phrase. Then go to the 2nd topic sentence
and controlling idea. The paragraph should be about 15-20 sentences. Include examples
(support) for the topic sentence.
3rd developmental paragraph. Use a transitional phrase to connect the 1st and 2nd
developmental paragraphs. Then go to the 3rd topic sentence and controlling idea. The
paragraph should be about 15-20 sentences. Include examples (support) for the topic
sentence.
Concluding paragraph – Wrap up the essay. Restate the main points. Add suggestions,
solutions, or final thoughts. Write about 12-15 sentences.

Use at least 5 in-text citations (within the body paragraphs usually). Put the author’s last
name and year in parentheses, for example, (Smith, 2018). Include a reference page at the end
on a separate page. Use the APA referencing style guide, as listed in week 2-3 on Binusmaya.

Upload the soft file to Turnitin. Use Microsoft Word. Use Times New Roman 12, justified
margins, and 1.5 spacing. Put your name and student number on the first page before the title.
The essay should be about 1,200-2,000 words. Use American English for the language
setting.

Essay Topic: You are free to choose the topic you want for the essay, but try to choose a topic
that is NOT related to soccer, video games, COVID, cars, motorcycles, and racing. Also,
don’t just copy and paste things from brochures or product descriptions like about cell
phones, laptop specifications, etc. Try to use original ideas and topics.
