ASSESMENT OF THE MEDICINAL PLANTS USED BY TRADITIONAL HEALERS

CHAPTER -I
A-Content and Rationale
Plants have been used for medicinal purposes by humans for thousands of years. The use of
medicinal plants by the Filipinos started way back before the Spanish colonization and could be
influenced by Chinese traders (Eusebio and Umali2004). Traditional medicine has been
acknowledged to have an important role in the healthcare delivery system and one of the most
common forms of practice is the use of medicinal plants (World Health Organization, WHO
2015).These plants have natural compounds that can be turned into medicines to treat different
kinds of illnesses. They are like nature's own medicine cabinet, full of helpful remedies for all
sorts of common problems.

Medicine plants are amazing and helpful plants that have special powers to heal and make us
feel better. This research helps us to fully understand medicine plants as a tool to cure our
illnesses. It can help us to develop a deeper understanding and appreciation for traditional
healing systems. We also gain a knowledge of some of their herbal medicine, a new discovery of
possibilities for managing health conditions or exploring natural remedies. Additionally, we can
raise awareness about the importance of conservation and sustainable practices to ensure the
availability of these plants for future generations.
B-OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY
Generally, this study aims to investigate the effectiveness of medical plants used by traditional
healers through interviews and experimental study.

Specifically, it aims for the following.


1. Determine what medicine plants do traditional healers use to treat specific
diseases.
2. Evaluate the uses of medicine plants and the process of preparation.

C- SIGNIFICANT OF THE STUDY


This study aims to understand the effectiveness, safety, and potential benefits of traditional
medicine plants in treating various health conditions. Studying the plants used by traditional
healers for medicine is important because it helps us learn about natural remedies and the
traditions of these healers. It also teaches us about different plants and how they can help us stay
healthy. It's a big step towards a more complete, caring, and lasting way to help people stay
healthy.

D- SCOPE AND DELIMITATION OF THE STUDY


The study aims to comprehensively evaluate the medicinal plants used by traditional healers in
Gamut ,Barobo, sds. The research data for this study will be collected on February 22, 2024,
Tuesday, it will specifically look at traditional healers and their knowledge of medicinal plants,
not other types of traditional medicine practitioners. This study is limited to traditional healers in
Gamut,Barobo, sds only.
In Gamut Barobo Sds, we interviewed some traditional healers in Purok, but only Purok
1-,4,5,6 and 8 have them. According to our survey there are a total of 9 traditional hearlers in
Gamut Barobo Sds.

OBJECTIVE:
Generally, this study aims to investigate the effectiveness of medical plants used by traditional
healers through interviews and experimental study.

Specifically, it aims for the following.


1. Identify the traditional healers in gamut barobo sds
2. Navigate the medical plants used by these healers, their uses, and function.
3. Determine what medicine plants do traditional healers use to treat specific diseases
including the process of preparation.
RESEARCH GAP
Many people around the world rely on traditional healers who use plants for medicine. These
medicinal plants have been part of healthcare for a long time and are important in many cultures.
The ability of traditional healers to provide accurate information on the medicinal properties of
plants has limited by various factors including the lack of reliable data and information, toxicity,
and potential interaction of the plants . Traditional healers often based on personal experience and
beliefs, rather than scientific evidence. Also, as a student researcher we might this problem the
lack of adequate training during the experimental study. But with careful planning, thorough
research, and willingness to learn and adapt, we can overcome these challenges and make valuable
contributions.
