CONSUMMERISM IN OUR SOCIETY

During the Christmas holidays, people use to spend a lot of money. On one
hand, we find a wide range of family meetings, in which lots of food are bought.
Additionally, in these festivities, many presents are purchased, and most of them
unnecessarily. This makes us wonder whether our society is consumerist or not. To my
mind, it is so.

Besides Christmas, we can brand our community as consumerist in many other

ways. Firstly, we have assumed as a society that as much as we have, the better our
social position. Thus, children usually grow with that idea created by society. This last
fact is what makes our community as it is.

Additionally, the high demand that this implies, creates at the same time, a high
production. Consequently, a vicious circle is generated: as the demand increases, the
production does so, and even in some cases, this last one is higher. The issue is visible
given this last fact. As I see it, this problem is clearly generated by society. Hence, the
best way to avoid it might be educating children in a more sustainable and quality way.

To sum up, we live in a highly consumerist society. Which gives too much value
to material stuff. Given this, we all should reconsider this fact and put our priorities in
order.
