(A) The electric potential of the conductor is 1.8kV

(B) The electric potential of the conductor is 2.25kV
(C) The electric potential at B due to induced charges on the sphere is −0.45kV.
(D) The electric potential at B due to induced charges on the sphere is 0.45kV.
Ans. (A, C)
Sol. Distance AC is given by, AC = 5 m
Potential at due to charge q at A is given by

PARAGRAPH-I
The kinetic energy is the capacity of the body to do work by virtue of its motion. For a body of
1
mass m moving with a velocity v, it is mathematically defined as KE = 2 mv 2 .

For conservative forces doing work, the kinetic energy always increases (or remains constant)
and for non-conservative forces doing work, the kinetic energy decreases. A plot of force vs
displacement is shown here. The conservative force is shown as positive and that due to non-
conservative force is shown as negative. Consider a body of mass 4 kg having a velocity of
20 ms−1 at the origin of the coordinates. Based on the above facts and figures, answer the
following questions.

35. Solubility product constant (K sp ) of salts of type MX, M2 and M3 X at temperature ' T ' are
4.0 × 10−8 , 3.2 × 10−14 and 2.7 × 10−15 , respectively. Solubilities (mol, dm) of the salt at
temperature ' T ' are in the order
(A) MX > MX2 > M3 X (B) M3 X > MX2 > MX
(C) MX2 > M3 X > MX (D) MX > M3 X > MX2
Ans. (D)
Sol. MX: K sp = S 2 = 4 × 10−8 ⇒ S = 2 × 10−4
MX2 : K sp = 4S 3 = 3.2 × 10−14 ⇒ S = 2 × 10−5
M3 X: K sp = 27S 4 = 2.7 × 10−15 ⇒ S = 10−4
Order of solubility is MX > M3 X > MX2
36. The hyperconjugative stabilities of tert-butyl cation and 2-butene, respectively, are due to
(A) σ → p (empty) and σ → π⋆ electron delocalisations.
(B) σ → σ∗ and σ → π electron delocalisations.
(C) σ → p (filled) and σ → π electron delocalisations.
(D) p (filled) → σ⋆ and σ → π⋆ electron delocalisations.
Ans. (A)
Sol. Hyperconjugation is due to the interaction of the electrons in 𝜎 bond (C − H or C-C) with
adjacent empty or partly filled non-bonding p-orbital, antibonding 𝜋 orbital or filled 𝜋 orbital.
This result in extended molecular orbital and increases the stability of the system.
In case of tert-butyl cation, the hyperconjugation is due to the interaction of the electrons in the
𝜎 bond with adjacent empty p-orbital.

In case of 2-butene, the hyperconjugation is due to the interaction of 𝜎 orbital with antibonding
𝜋 orbital.

37. The dissolution of Al(OH)3 by a solution of NaOH results in the formation of:
(A) [Al(H2 O)4 (OH)2 ]+ (B) [Al(H2 O)3 (OH)3 ]
(C) [Al(H2 O)2 (OH)4 ]− (D) [Al(H2 O)6 (OH)3 ]
Ans. (C)
Sol. Al(OH)3 dissolves in NaOH solution to give Al(OH)−
4 ion which is supposed to have the

octahedral complex species [Al(OH)4 (H2 O)2 ]− in aqueous solution.

Al(OH)3 + NaOH(𝑎𝑞) ⟶ [Al(OH)4 (H2 O)2 ]− (𝑎𝑞) + Na+ (𝑎𝑞)
38. The correct order of acidity for the following compounds is

(A) I > II > III > IV (B) III > I > II > IV
(C) III > IV > II > I (D) I > III > IV > II
Ans. (A)
Sol. In general, whenever a group is present at ortho position of benzoic acid, irrespective of its
nature (EDG or EWG), it increases the acidic strength as compared to benzoic acid itself. Here in
option (I) and (II) we have ortho effect which will increase the acidity of compounds than (III)
and (IV).
Comparing (I) and (II), (I) is the most strong acid because it has more hydrogen bonding
compare to other. The two OH group in ortho position make hydrogen bonding with
carboxylate ion. This hydrogen bonding stabilise the conjugate base of this Compound.
In (I), one OH is present at one ortho position and it will have one hydrogen bonding with
carboxylate ion.
Stability of conjugate base ∝ Strength of acid
Hence (I) is more acidic and than (II).

Comparing (III) and (IV), OH at meta position does not show mesomeric effect but -I effect will
stabilise the negative charge on conjugate base. OH on para position show +𝑀 effect which will
increase the negative charge on carboxylate ion and destabilise the conjugate base. Hence (III)
is more acidic than (IV). Thus, the correct order of acidity is
I > II > III > IV

(B) Urms is inversely proportional to the square root of its molecular mass
(C) Eav at a given temperature doesn't depend on its molecular mass

𝐸𝑎𝑣 at a given temperature does not depend on the molecular mass of the gas
𝑈𝑟𝑚𝑠 is doubled when its temperature is increased four times
𝑈𝑟𝑚𝑠 is inversely proportional to the square root of the molecular mass of the gas

We know, 𝐸𝑎𝑣 = 2 𝑘𝑏 𝑇 ⇒ 𝑈𝑟𝑚𝑠 = √ 𝑀

Thus.
𝐸𝑎𝑣 at a given temperature does not depend on molecular mass.
𝑈𝑟𝑚𝑠 is doubled when its temperature is increased four times.
𝐸𝑎𝑣 increases four times when its temperature is increased four times.
𝑈𝑟𝑚𝑠 is inversely proportional to the square root of molecular mass
3 3𝑅𝑇

CLASS 11th APNI KAKSHA STAR BATCH
Sol. (C, D)
A buffer solution consists of a weak acid and its salt with a strong base or a weak base and its
salt with strong acid.
(III) In HNO3 and CH3 COONa combination, if HNO3 is present in a limiting amount, it will be
neutralised completely, leaving behind some excess of CH3 COONa. Now the solution contains
acetic acid (weak acid) and sodium acetate (salt with strong base NaOH ).
Hence, it is a buffer solution.
CH3 COONa + HNO3 → CH3 COOH + NaNO3
Buffer combination
(IV) Acetic acid (weak acid) and sodium acetate (salt with strong base NaOH ) form a buffer
solution.
43. The atomic masses of He and Ne are 4 and 20 a.m.u., respectively. The value of the de Broglie
wavelength of He gas at −73∘ C is " M " times that of the de Broglie wavelength of Ne at 727∘ C. M
is
Ans. (5)
Sol. de Broglies's wavelength of a particle when kinetic energy (K.E) and mass (m) are given:

𝜆=
√2𝐾. 𝐸𝑚
Given:
Mass of He atom (𝑚He ) = 4amu
Mass of Ne atom (mNe ) = 20amu
Temperature of He(THe ) = −73∘ C = 200 K
Temperature of Ne(TNe ) = +727∘ C = 1000 K
We know that:
K.E  T
𝐾. 𝐸He 𝑇He 200 1
= = =
𝐾. 𝐸Ne 𝑇Ne 1000 5
Now, ratio of de Broglies wavelengths of Ne and He(𝜆He , 𝜆Ne ) :

𝜆He √2 K ⋅ ENe mNe 5 20

= =√ × =5
𝜆Ne √2 K ⋅ EHe mHe 1 4
∴ 𝜆He = 5 × 𝜆Ne
So, value of 𝑀 is 5
