Chapter-I
Basic Principles for Electric Machine Analysis
• The principle of electromechanical energy conversion is perhaps the
cornerstone of machine analysis .
• It allows us to establish an expression of electromagnetic torque in
terms of machine variables
• Other principle that must be established are
the derivation of equivalent circuit representations of magnetically
coupled circuit
the concept of a sinusoidally distributed winding
The concept of a rotating air gap magnetomotive force (MMF)
The derivation of winding inductances

The energy distribution should be expressed as
Where
𝑊𝐸 − is the total energy supplied by the electric sourse.
𝑊𝑀 −is the total energy supplied by the mechanical source
𝑊𝑒 - the energy transferred to the coupling field by the electrical system.
𝑊𝑚 - the energy transferred to the coupling field by the mechanical
system.
𝑊𝑒𝐿 -the heat losses associated with the electrical system
𝑊𝑚𝐿 -the heat losses associated with the mechanical system
𝑊𝑒𝑆 -energy stored in the electric field.
𝑊𝑚𝑆 - energy stored in the magnetic field.
