CHAPTER 3: METHODOLOGY

RESEARCH DESIGN OF THE STUDY:


The researchers will utilize the quantitative approach and a correlational design as a study
design to measure the LEVELS OF READING COMPREHENSION AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE
AMONG GRADE 12 HUMSS STUDENTS OF GFMINHS. This strategy examines the link between
variables without allowing the researcher to alter or manipulate any of them.

RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY:

Purposive sampling will be used in this study to identify 30 senior high school HUMSS
students. The sample size will be ten kids from each grade level. Participants will be
chosen based on their availability and willingness to participate in the study. Participants
will be informed about the goal and nature of the study, and their permission will be sought
prior to data collection.

LOCALE OF THE STUDY:

The study's participants will be 12 senior high school HUMSS students. The Governor Ferrer
Memorial Integrated National High School houses the school, which has a varied student body.
Students will be chosen based on their desire to engage in the study as well as their ability to
deliver responses. In terms of the survey, it will only be performed on school grounds or in
classrooms.

SAMPLING TECHNIQUE OF THE STUDY:

Purposive sampling will be utilized as a sample strategy. Purposive sampling is a way of


selecting participants depending on the traits required in a research. Participants in this study
will be chosen from the grade 12 HUMSS strand, and the sample size will be 30 senior high
school HUMSS students, with 10 students from each grade section. Purposive sampling is
useful for our investigation since it allows us to guarantee that each attribute is adequately
represented in the sample. Which is difficult to do with conventional sampling strategies.

STATISTICAL TOOLS OF THE STUDY:

Correlational analysis will be used in this study to investigate the RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN
LEVELS OF READING COMPREHENSION AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AMONG
GRADE 12 HUMSS STUDENTS OF GFMINHS.

Correlational analysis is a statistical approach for determining how closely two variables are
connected to one another. It looks for a consistent pattern of correlation or link between the
variables without demonstrating causality. It aids in comprehending the magnitude and direction
of the relationship between variables.

The researchers will collect data on the participants' level of addiction to online gaming
(evaluated using a standardized scale) as well as their academic achievement for the purposes
of this study. To compute the correlation coefficient, the data will be evaluated using
correlational analysis.

DATA GATHERING INSTRUMENT OF THE STUDY:

The quantitative data collection tools will be used in this study, "A Quantitative Study:
"RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LEVELS OF READING COMPREHENSION AND
ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AMONG GRADE 12 HUMSS STUDENTS OF GFMINHS."

This study will use quantitative data gathering instruments, specifically surveys, which will be
conducted online and in-person and will focus on the senior high school HUMSS students
'LEVELS OF READING COMPREHENSION AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AMONG
GRADE 12 HUMSS STUDENTS OF GFMINHS The survey questions will be designed based
on relevant literature and pre-tested prior to data collection to ensure that they are clear,
understandable, and relevant to the study. The data collection instrument will also adhere to
ethical guidelines for research involving human subjects, and the participants will be informed
about the study's goal and nature, and their consent will be requested prior to data collection.

DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE:

The study aims to investigate the RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LEVELS OF READING


COMPREHENSION AND ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE AMONG GRADE 12 HUMSS
STUDENTS OF GFMINHS The researchers will obtain parental approval, obtain informed
consent, and conduct a survey with a sample of participants. The data will be analyzed using
correlation analysis to determine any relationships between variables. The results will be
reported in a comprehensive research report, outlining the research problem, objectives, design,
data gathering and analysis procedures, findings, discussion, and conclusion, which will be
shared with school authorities and participants.
