It is the act of intentionally killing oneself
with the aid of someone who has the
knowledge to do so. In this case, the only
person who is fully qualified to assist this is
a physician. According to the federal law,
legalizing PAS is a matter of states’ rights.

Impact
Unnatural death, such as assisted
suicide, can cause severe grief reactions
in family members. As euthanasia is also
considered as an unnatural death, it has
been suggested that euthanasia may
induce traumatic grief.
Context
PAS or euthanasia is the practice of ending
the life of a patient to limit the patient's
suffering. The patient in question would
typically be terminally ill or experiencing
great pain and suffering. The word
“euthanasia” itself comes from the Greek
words “eu” (good) and “thanatos” (death).
