1. Education during the Pre-Spanish Period was only for the matter of their own convenience.

Meaning to say, they educate people based only to the significance of surviving and is only
limited to that extent such as vocational skills, household chores, and any other necessary
knowledge at previous times.
As for the Spaniards, their ulterior motive as to spreading education in the Philippines is to
promulgate religious beliefs. And as a matter of fact, one of the oldest Catholic universities in the
Asia is still existing, namely the University of Sto. Tomas. The Spaniards, needless to say, were
tyrant but their influence greatly affected the Pre-Spanish period education system.
In times of American period, as cliché as it sounds, the term “America is a free country” simply
means that they have freedom of will, expression, and everything – hence democracy. And this
system of government takes on countless principles and virtues of the civilians living on a certain
nation. Thus, they have propagated this when colonizing the Philippines. They also taught us
how to read and write, and many other advanced systems.
Integration of the Japanese language was the main goal of the Japanese themselves when they
colonized the Philippines. And as disciplined as they are, they also want to instill helpful values
such as committing to one’s work, vocational, technical and agricultural skills, and also their
culture in the form of original Japanese songs.
And lastly, during the Republic period, the government wants to promote equality for all men
and women, the powerful and the oppressed, the rich and the poor – as to truly embody the
way of the democratic. They also wanted to preserve thousands of generations of national
tradition and culture.
2. No. Having ruthless tyrants rule all over the country is one thing, but merely having no means to
access certain books that would boost my knowledge to certain information is clearly an
unjustifiable reason. Call me a slack-off but I’d rather have these technologies all to myself and at
convenient times rather than having to go back-and-forth to libraries just to read it all for an nth
period of time. Needless to say, it is rather scary to live and “study” during those times, and
where privileged only have the right to study.
