TYPES OF COMMUNICATION
Intrapersonal Communication can be defined as communication with one’s self which Involves
talking to, writing to and thinking to one’s self.
Ex. Meditation, reflecting/contemplating and analyzing something, thinking of surprising someone
Interpersonal Communication can be a one-to-one communication with two or more persons.
➢ Dyadic involves two participants. A speaker and A listener who come together to exchange
thoughts, ideas, opinions, and information.

✓ Direct and vocal
✓ Gives immediate response
➢ Small Group requires from 3 to 15 people to study an issue, discuss a problem, and come
up with a solution or a plan.
✓ It can promote and enhance critical-thinking skills

➢ Public Speaking involves one speaker addresses many listeners, collectively known as
audience.
✓ Graduation, or any events that require speeches
✓ Public Speaking Contests (Oration, Debate, Extemporaneous)

SPEECH STYLES
➢ According to Martin Joos (1962), there are five formality levels of communication.
➢ It depends on the relationship with the person you address with, the topic being discussed,
and the occasion when the exchange takes place.

FROZEN STYLE
➢ Highest rank of Joo’s classification. ➢ is static and ritualistic in time and

FORMAL STYLE

CASUAL STYLE
➢ is done among friends and acquaintances who do not require background information.

✓ “Yorme of Manila, Isko Moreno.”

INTIMATE STYLE
➢ is a non-public speech style that uses private vocabulary and nonverbal messages.
➢ occurs among people who have known each other for a long time and have shared many
experiences.
Examples:
✓ A communication between:
✓ mother and daughter
✓ husband and wife
