PONGAL CELEBRATION
REPORT –1 PONGAL CELEBRATION

INTRODUCTION:
Pongal is a traditional harvest festival celebrated in South India,
particularly in Tamil Nadu. The festival marks the end of the winter solstice and the onset of
the harvest season. Pongal is observed over four days, with the main day, also called Pongal,
dedicated to cooking a special dish of newly harvested rice, milk, and jaggery in a clay pot
until it overflows, symbolizing prosperity. The festival is a time for gratitude, family
gatherings, and cultural festivities, reflecting the agrarian roots of the region. During the
Pongal festival, homes are adorned with colorful kolams (rangoli), and people participate in
traditional activities like bull-taming, music, and dance.
The second day, known as Mattu Pongal, honors cattle for their role in
agriculture. Cows and bulls are decorated, and special prayers are offered to them.
Jallikattu, a traditional bull- taming sport, is a prominent part of the celebrations. The third
day, Kanum Pongal, is a day for family outings and picnics. People visit relatives, exchange
greetings, and enjoy various recreational activities. On the final day, Kaanum Pongal,
leftover Pongal is offered to birds, and families spend time together, often engaging in
leisure activities.Pongal is not only a celebration of the harvest but also a reflection of the
cultural richness and agricultural significance deeply ingrained in the heritage of South
India. The festive atmosphere, traditional rituals, and the spirit of togetherness make Pongal
a significant and joyful occasion for the communities that celebrate it.
PONGAL CELEBRATION AT SRM UNIVERSITY RAMAPURAM:

Colleges, especially those in South India, often celebrate Pongal with


enthusiasm. Traditional decorations, rangoli, and cultural events like folk dances are
organized. Special Pongal dishes are prepared, and students participate in cooking
competitions. Some colleges also arrange traditional games and activities to mark the festive
spirit. Overall, it's a time for students to come together, enjoy the festivities, and celebrate the
harvest festival. Additionally, colleges may organize cultural performances, including music
and drama related to Pongal themes. This fosters a sense of community and cultural pride
among the students, making the celebration more vibrant and memorable.

Like wise the Pongal celebration at srm ramapuram was conducted grandly and peacefully. This
event was conducted by the SRM students with the help of campus life team members,
volunteers, and others. Many students eagerly participated in the Pongal event and there were
many events like Pongal cooking, debate, dancing, singing, etc. every student cooperated in this
event by wearing traditional dress codes like dhotis and sarees and also maintained discipline
during the event. The security guards and the bouncers were also with full help in the smooth
conducting of the event. The event was conducted on 12.01.2024. This event was conducted
within the SRM Ramapuram campus itself.

INTRODUCTION:

The 47th Chennai Book Fair is an annual literary event held in Chennai,
India. It serves as a platform for publishers, authors, and book enthusiasts to come together
and celebrate literature. The fair showcases a diverse range of books across genres, providing
a unique opportunity for readers to explore and purchase new titles. It typically features book
launches, author interactions, and cultural programs, making it a vibrant gathering for the
literary community

The 47th Chennai Book Fair continues to promote a love for reading and
literacy, attracting both avid readers and casual visitors alike. With numerous stalls from
various publishing houses, the fair facilitates the exchange of ideas and knowledge.
Educational institutions, authors, and literary organizations actively participate, contributing
to the intellectual ambiance of the event. The fair often includes seminars, workshops, and
discussions on literature and related topics, creating a dynamic space for intellectual
engagement and fostering a deeper appreciation for the written word. This book fair is said to
believe that it will help many of the people who are book lovers and will also create an good
habit of reading books among the children.
47TH CHENNAI BOOK FAIR:

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin had inaugurated the 47th


Chennai Book Fair and gave away the Kalaignar M Karunanidhi Porkizhi annual literary
awards at the YMCA grounds near Nandanam in Chennai on Wednesday.According to the
Booksellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI), which organises the annual
event, the chief minister will inaugurate the event at 4.30 pm. The 19-day fair will remain
open from 2 pm to 8.30 pm on working days and from 11 am to 8.30 pm on holidays. Apart
from Porkizhi awards, which will be given to six people under the categories of prose, poetry,
novel, short story, drama and translation, nine BAPASI awards will also be distributed.

The fair will have about 9,00 stalls and a 10 per cent discount on all
books. The Tamil Nadu Textbook and Educational Services Corporation, World Tamil
Research Centre, Sahitya Akademi, Dr Ambedkar Foundation, National Book Trust,
Thanjavur Tamil University and others such as Penguin Random House India, British
Council, HarperCollins and Simon & Schuster India will participate in the fair. The Tamil
Nadu Handicrafts Development Corporation has set up a stall to help artisans as well as
exhibit their work. The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department will also
have a stall.An entry fee of Rs 10 will be collected from visitors except for school and college
students, who can walk in on producing their identity cards.

REPORT – 3 GLOBAL INVESTORS MEET :

INTRODUCTION :

The Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet ( GIM ) , a two days event ,
commenced on January 7 , 2024 at Chennai Trade Centre . Organised by the Tamil nadu
Government , this edition boasts participation from 9 partner countries and over 30 nations ,
Signaling a significant global presence .

With an emphasis on achieving the objective of a $1 trillion economy , a


central agenda for the government since May 2021 , the GIM aim to create employment
opportunities , specifically focusing on the Youth and women workforce in rural areas , as
claimed by the source statement . This represents the Third edition of the GIM in Tamil
Nadu , following events in 2015 and 2019 .

The key guests at the meet included MK Stalin , Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu
; Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra Groups ; TRB Rajaa , TN Industry Minister ;
Mallika Srinivasan , Chairperson TAFE ; and TM Anbarasan , Minister for MSMEs at the
TN Global Investors Meet 2024 in Chennai .
GLOBAL INVESTORS MEET AT CHENNAI TRADE CENTRE :

As per an official source , the Tamil Nadu Global Investors Meet 2024 has attracted INR
60,000 crores ( or $ 7.5 billion ) and has the potential to generate 50.000 jobs . Some of the
companies that have invested are :

 VinFast Investment : Vietnamese EV maker VinFast commited for an


EV manufacturing plant in Thoothukudi .

 Semiconductor and Advanced Electronics Policy :Tamil Nadu unveiled a


comprehensive policy in the semiconductor and advanced electronics sectors , aiming
to create a state – of – the – art manufacturing and design ecosystem . The policy
focuses on attracting anchor investments , enabling a semiconductor design
ecosystem , and contributing 40% to India s electronics exports by 2030 . It also aims
to create a skilled talent pool of 2,00,000 persons in the sector by 2030.

 Strategic Investments : Multiple firms , including Tata Electronics , Hyundai ,


Qualcomm , First solar , Pegatron , JSW , investments in the state , aligning with
the semiconductor and advanced electronics industries .

 Additional Hydai investments : Hyundai has committed an additional investments


in Tamil Nadu , emphasizing its dedication to electric vehicle manufacturing ,
charging infrastructure , and skill development in the state .

 Hydrogen Resources Centre : Collaboration announced for a dedicated


‘Hydrogen Resource Centre’ in Chennai fostering a Hydrogen Society in line with
Hyundai’s vision .

 Qualcomm’s Design Centre : Qualcomm opened a new design center in Chennai


, focusing on semiconductor design and technology .
 Renewable Energy and Green Hydrogen : Mukesh Ambani announced Reliance’s
commitment to new investment in Tamil Nadu , particularly in renewable energy and
green hydrogen projects .

 Top MoU signed include :

1. Vietnam’s electric Vehicle manufacturer, Vin Fast invested rupees 16,000


crore in Thoothukudi.
2. TATA Electronics, a green field venture in manufacturing precision components
, invested rupees 12,082 crore at Krishnagiri; employment – 40,500.
3. JSW , an Indian conglomerate with diversified interest, including steel,
energy, infrastructure , cement, and more invested rupees 12,000 crore in
Thoothukudi and Tirunelveli ; employment – 6,600.
4. Hyundai, India’s primary smart mobility solutions provider and top car
exporter invested additional rupees 6,180 crore investment in Tamil Nadu.
5. TVS Motor Company, a global two and three-wheeler manufacturer,
invested rupees 5,000 crore ; employment – 500.
6. Pegatron, a Design and Manufacturing Services ( DMS ) company
invested rupees 1000 crore in Chengalpattu ; employment – 8000 .
7. Mitsubishi, the global provider of electric equipment across various sectors
, invested rupees 200 crore in Gummidipoondi.
8. A.P. Moller Maersk, Singapore, an integrated transport and logistics company.

REPORT- 4 GOVERNMENT MUSEUM CHENNAI :

INTRODUCTION :

Any structure or organisation that houses a collection of artefacts and other item
with aesthetic, culture historical, or scientific significance is referred to as a museum. More
public museums presents these items to the general public as a part of temporary or
permanent displays.

They Chennai Government museum, sometimes called the Madras Museum, is the
second oldest museum in India and one of the oldest museums in the entire globe. It’s
vast collection of artefacts illustrating human history and civilisation is impressive.

The museum s collection of artefacts and bronze sculptures from various southern
Indian dynasties is well known .

However, the exhibits also cover archaeology, geology and other subjects. Even

outside of Europe, the government Museum Chennai has the greatest collection of roman
artefacts.

The museum’s whole collection is spread across 6 buildings and more than 40
galleries. The Government museum complex also houses the national Art Gallery and a
Children’s Museum in addition to the institution’s spectacular galleries .
History of Government Museum Chennai :

The Madras Literary Society made the initial suggestion for the Government
Museum in Chennai over 200 years ago, in 1846 . The Madras Government Museum was
established at Fort St. George collage in 1851 . The Madras literary society 1100 samples of
rock. Later, in 1855 , the expanding collection was transferred to Pantheon because the
collage building was in a poor condition.

The front building, the museum Theatre , and the Connemara public library all
debuted in 1896 . Construction on the main entrance Began in 1939 . The National art gallery
has opened its doors in 1951 . The structure for collecting bronze was constructed in 1963 .
The new Childrens Museum opened in 1988 and the modern art building in 1984 .

The Madras literary society helped promote the idea for a Museum in Madras in
1846 AD and Sir Henry pottinger , the governor at the time, obtained approval from the East
India Company’s court of directors in London.

Dr. Edward, the medical officer for the governor’s body shield was designated as the first officer
in charge of the Government Museum in January 1851 AD . The initial state onthe opening of the
Madras Government Museum appeared in the St . George Gazetteer on April19 , 1851 AD .

Precisely know as the central Museum, the Government Museum was founded at
the college of Fort st . George on the ground of the current office of the director of public
instruction college road , where the University was established in 1812 AD and significantly
aided the development of southern Indian languages.
The Madras literary society’s collection of 1100 geological specimens served as the
foundation of the museum when it originally opened on the university first floor. It gradually
expanded and changed under the guidance and control of a number of directors. The
museum’s superintendent, Dr Balfour , suggested moving it to a Another facility because the
building was dilapidated.

It was moved to a building called the Pantheon in December 1854 AD , also


known as the Public rooms or Assembly rooms , where the city's elite gathered .

Banquets. balls. and dramatic plays used to be held in the building from the final ten
years of the eiehteenth century. The Pantheon's grounds formerly owned by Hall Plumer, a
government employee and public works contractor. In 1793 AD. he gave the grounds to a
committee of 24 people. "ho "ere then in charge of governing the town's public entertainment.
In 1821 AD, the committee offered the principal residence and central backyard house to E.S.
Moorat, a rich Armenian merchant, who in turn. bought it again to the Government in 1830
AD, for Rs.28.OOO.

CONNEMARA LIBRARY :

A public library was previously established in the Madras Museum in the


year 1853 AD. In June 1862 AD, it was first made accessible to the general public. The
construction of the library and lecture corridor began in December 1873 AD and was
completed in 1875 AD.
It was solemnly inaugurated On March 16. 1876 A.D., by the governor. The Superintendent-
Captain Mitchell. '"as responsible for enhancing the library. It is thought that he founded the
Connemara Public Library.

A cheetah and tiger were kept at the museum in 1854 AD, and visitors came to sec them from far-off
regions. Dr. Balfour asked the Nawab of the Carnatic to send the wild creatures he possessed to the
museum as the museum's visitors grew. In a notice calling for the animals to be proficient to the
Museum Zoological Gardens was once published in September 1855 AD. 360 animals housed in the
Madras Museum's zoological backyard by the first half of the year 1856 AD. The Zoological Gardens
were taken over by the City Municipality in 1863 AD and moved to the People's Park.

The property used to be in the beginning forty three acres in extent and stretched from Casa Major Road
to the existing Police Commissioner's Road, and it used to be flanked by way of the Pantheon
Road and Halls Road.

The Chennai Government Museum has six different buildings: Main Building - variety of paintings,
stones and sculptures
Front Building — collection of arms, puppets and other art pieces
Bronze Gallery — bronze sculptures, old coins and chemically preserved artefacts Children-s Museum
— different educational exhibits
National Art Gallery — traditional paintings and arts
Contemporary Art Gallery — British-time portraits, modern arts and other exhibits
You can also go to the Museum Theater after that. There are periodically academic and cultural
programmes offered here. It serves as a venue for other performing arts events, like plays and concerts.

The Chennai Government Museum is also home to the Connemara Public Library.
Both secular and some of the nation's rare literary collections are included

REPORT 5 PROJECT DAY 2024 :

INTRODUCTION :

The PROJECT DAY 2024 was conducted by SRM Group of Institution,


Ramapuram Campus, Chennai (Easwari Engineering College, SRM Institute of Science and
Technology and SRM Dental College) on 3 rd February 2024 . Over 100 students were
actively participated and showed there interest towards the subject and their innovative idea .

The main aim of the Project Day is to bring out the hidden innovative product
development talents of the young Commerce students,Engineers and Dentists. Over 5000
school students visit PROJECT DAY 2024. Students from primary school also participated
in Project Day. The Project Day was inaugurated by the chief guest Dr. OR. Nandagopan,
Director, DRDO Industry Academia- Ramanujan Centre of Excellence, IIT Madras &
Former Director, NSTL., DRDO along with Dr.R.Shivakumar, Chairman, SRM Group of
Institutions, Ramapuram & Trichy Campuses.

To encourage the participants, refreshment where given which boost them to


participate actively.
There were many interesting projects, which gives us practical knowledge.
Some of them are as follows :

 TESLA COIL :
The tesla coil was invented by Serbian American inventor Nikola Tesla in 1891 . Tesla was primarily interested in
its potential to wirelessly transmit electricity , particularly for lighting . He hoped to build large coil scattered across
the earth , each of which would provide power to any device with a receiver coil .

Advantages of telsa coil :


1. Death due to electrical accident will decreace.
2. Electric cars can be efficiently used because car can be charged while in use .
ANDRA ( ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE ) :

Andra is an Al (artificialIntelligence) run Holographic security system
