The program covers the procedure for the installation and testing for potable water line. KHONAINI INTERNATIONAL CO.LTD, SABIC HOUSING PROJECT AL JAAR, YANBUKHONAINI INTERNATIONAL COLLTD, 4 ‘SABIC HOUSING PROJECT AL JAAR YANBU INTRODUCTION Potable water line is one of the most important plumbing (piping) activities inside the building. It is the main source that distributes water to the point of use. 2. PURPOSE The purpose of this orientation is to provide for the procedures that shall > be followed while carrying out the transportation, handling, laying, jointing, hydro testing for PVC/CPVC piping system. 3. EQUIPMENT: © Hilti Drill Machine Hand tools like hammer, screw driver, flat file etc. ‘* Coring Machine © Calibrated Pressure gauges, Check Valve, Isolation Valve, Manual Testing Pump. 4. MATERIALS: le © Approved Shop drawings. © Approved PVC & CPVC Schedule 80 Pipes and Fittings. * Solvent & Cleaner. * Hangers, Clamps, Threaded rods & Anchor bolts. © Gate Valves, Check Valves & Water Hammer Arrestors. Before commencing of piping works, all shop drawings to be submitted and approved and all materials to be approved and inspected. 2. Survey examinations for reference finished floor levels are done. 3. A reference level of 1m from finished floor level is given by survey base on that installation of potable water line in commence. 4. All pipes are installed inside the pipes chase and above ceiling and are concealed so that no portion of the pipe is visible to the outside. 5. Pipes that penetrate through wall panels, roof slab are provided with sleeves and space between pipe and sleeve is filled with sealant. 6. Pipes which run parallel or perpendicular to each other are kept at a minimum distance of 10cm from each other so that at no point there is contact between cold water and hot water line. 7. While installing pipes vertically, some distance is kept between wall and pipe so that there is proper clearance for installation of insulation. 8. Hanging rod support for pipes installed vertically and horizontally should be at a maximum distance of 1.0m sufficient support for the pipe to be held in its position. 9. All joints, gate valves, unions & water hammer arrestors are exposed at the time of inspection. 10. Hot Water line pipes above the ceiling and inside the pipe chase should be properly packed with approved pipe insulation. 11. All bathrooms should have separate gate valve and hammer arrestor installed for both cold and hot water line. KHONAINT INTERNATIONAL CO.LTD, SABIC HOUSING PROJECT Al. All pipes, fittings & solvents used for installation are approved brands with proper material inspection and storage. © Care shall be taken in handling PVC/CPVC material, in particular, that the ends shall be protected against any impact. PVC/CPVC materials shall not to be thrown, dropped, dumped, hit and pushed over abrasive surface. ? 7. INSPECTION AND TESTING (ITP, * Potable water line installation is subject to visual inspection for layout, supports and subject to hydrostatic pressure test for leak. * Potable Water is filled for the whole building by looping the hot and cold-water lines and the whole system will be subjected to application of pressure. 8. HYDROSTATIC TEST PROCEDURE © Hydrostatic test includes assembly of calibrated pressure gauges, check valves, eo isolation valves, manual testing pump etc. © Aminimum of 2 pressure gauges are required for the test. One on the test pump side and one on the piping system and the deviation in readings between the gauges shouldn’t exceed more than 5%. All gauges should be within the calibration period at all times. * Medium used for hydrostatic pressure test is Potable water. © Piping shall be examined before pressure is applied to ensure that it is tightly connected/fitted. All items not subject to pressure test shall be disconnected or isolated by valves, plugs or other suitable means. KHONAINI INTERNATIONAL COLTD, ‘SABIC HOUSING PROJECT AL JAAR, YANBUKHONAINL INTERNATIONAL COLT, 7 SABIC HOUSING PROJECT AL JAAR, YANBU ‘* Filling and pressurizing shall be done on the upstream side of check valves in the system. « The hydrostatic test pressure at any point in the piping system shall not be less than 1.5 times the design pressure, but shall not exceed the maximum allowable test pressure of any non-isolated components such as arrestors or valves. © After the test pressure is reached and before commencement of inspection of the system, the isolation valve between the temporary test piping under pressure test shall be closed and the test pump disconnected. * During the application of the test pressure, all in-line valves not used as test isolation valves shall be in an open position. ® Initial test readings are noted/marked and verified for any pressure drop after the minimum test duration. 9. No, Chlorination and Disinfection procedures to be completed before the line is used for normal services inside the building. «sit a good practice to install hot water line without insulation? No, hot water line should be insulated always. * Can Potable water line be installed without sleeves while passing through concrete walls or slabs? No, wherever pipes are passing through concrete walls or slabs, a pipe sleeve of higher diameter should be installed to prevent Potable Water line from coming in contact with concrete directly. ‘* What happens if the pressure gauges show a variation of more 5% difference while doing hydrotest? Proper venting and air release should be done before applying pressure to the system. No testing shall be done if the pressure gauges show variation of more than 5%. * Isit ok if pipe supports are maintained with in a distance less than 1m?
