I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards The learners demonstrate an understanding of motion in one dimension.
B. Performance Standards The learners shall be able to conduct a forum on mitigation and disaster risk reduction.
C. Learning The learners should be able to describe the motion of an object in terms of distance or displacement, speed or
Competencies/Objectives velocity, and acceleration.
D. Instructional Objectives 1. Solve the acceleration
2. appreciate the importance of acceleration.

TEACHER’S ACTIVITY STUDENTS’ ACTIVITY
ELICIT
Yes. Hanna.
A car travels at uniform velocity a distance of 100 m
in 4 seconds. What is the velocity of the car?
Explain how you got your answers. The missing quantity here is velocity, the given are
the distance which is the 100 m and the time is 4
seconds. The formula that I used is v = d/t, so the
answer is 25 m/s
Very good!
ENGAGE
Very good!
D. Discussing new concepts EXPLORE
and practicing new skills #1 PRACTICE PROBLEM
E. Discussing new concepts
and practicing new skills #2 Can you please read, Jericho? : Acceleration is a vector quantity that is defined as
the rate at which an object changes its velocity.
For example:
None, Ma’am. Because if there is no change in
speed and no change in direction then, there is no
acceleration.
Next, example 2.
Yes, Aldrin your raising your hand. : because when there is no change in speed but
there is a change in direction, still there is an
acceleration.
Why?
: Yes, Ma’am.
Why?
Amazing!
: Positive Acceleration when an object in motion
speeds up or increases its velocity.
Acceleration can be positive or negative.
Answer:
Any questions?
None, Ma’am.
G. Finding Practical ELABORATE
applications of concepts and APPLICATION
skills
Class, why is it important to know the application
H. Making generalizations and of acceleration in our daily lives?
abstractions about the lesson
Yes, Ivy.
Acceleration is an important concept in our daily
lives because it helps us understand changes in
speed and direction.
Precisely! Thank you
Yes, Anthony.
Ma’am, driving, the acceleration helps drivers
control their speed on the road. everyday
movement like walking, running, or riding a bike
this, our daily activities changes speed and
Very good! Thank you. direction.
I. Evaluating Learning
EVALUATE
Directions: Complete the paragraph by filling in the blanks using the correct word/s from the box. Write your
answers in your Science activity notebook.
Motion is a change in (1.) __________ with respect to a reference point. Distance and displacement, speed
and velocity, and acceleration are ways to describe motion. Distance is a (2.) ________ quantity having
magnitude but no direction while (3.) __________ is a vector quantity having both magnitude and direction. (4.)
__________ speed refers to the total distance travelled divided by the total time and (5.) __________ is
displacement divided by total time of travel. A (6.)__________ measures instantaneous speed/velocity.
(7.)________ motion refers to an object moving with constant speed or constant velocity. (8.) __________ is
defined as the change in velocity in a time interval. Acceleration may change in any of the following conditions:
when the velocity changes, when the (9.)__________ of motion changes, or when both velocity and direction
of motion changes. (10.) __________ is the opposite of acceleration where the velocity of an object decreases.
Answers:
1. position 6. speedometer
2. distance 7. Constant
3. displacement 8. Acceleration
4. average 9. Direction
5. velocity 10. Deceleration
