WHAT IS RESPIRATORY

SYSTEM?

• . The respiratory system is the network of

organs and tissues that help you breathe.
It includes y, lungs and blood vessels our
airways The muscles that power your
lungs are also part of the respiratory
system. These parts work together to
move oxygen throughout the body and
clean out waste gases like carbon
dioxide.
RESPIRATORY
STSTEM
• The respiratory system's main
job is to move fresh air into
your body while removing
waste gases. Once in the
lungs, oxygen is moved into
the bloodstream and carried
through your body.
PARTS AND FUNCTIONS
OF REPIRATORY SYTEM

1. *Nose and Mouth:* Air

enters through these
openings, where it is filtered,
moistened, and warmed.

• 2. *Pharynx:* The throat region

where the pathway for both air
and food cross.
• 3. *Larynx:* Contains the vocal
cords and helps with sound
production.
4. *Trachea:*
Windpipe that
connects the
larynx to the
bronchi, providing
a pathway for air.
5. *Bronchi:* Tubes that
branch off the trachea,
leading air into the
lungs.
7. *Bronchioles:* Smaller
airways branching within
the lungs.
8. *Alveoli:* Tiny air sacs within
the lungs where gas exchange
occurs—oxygen is absorbed,
and carbon dioxide is released.
9. *Diaphragm:* A muscle below
the lungs that contracts during
inhalation and relaxes during
exhalation, aiding in breathing
HUMAN AND DOG RESPIRATORY SYSTEM
The respiratory system in both humans and dogs is responsible for respiration, which is the
process of breathing. Here are some key comparisons between the human and dog respiratory

systems: 1. Structure: Both humans and dogs have similar structures in their respiratory systems,
including the nose, nasal passages, pharynx, larynx, trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, and lungs.
2. Breathing Mechanism: When humans and dogs breathe, air enters through the nose or
mouth and travels down the trachea. The trachea then divides into the bronchi, which further
divide into smaller airways called bronchioles. The bronchioles end in small sacs called alveoli,
where the exchange of oxygen and carbon dioxide takes place.
3. Lung Capacity: Dogs generally have a larger lung capacity compared to humans relative to
their body size. This allows them to take in more oxygen with each breath.
4. Respiratory Rate: The normal respiratory rate for a healthy adult dog is around 24 breaths
per minute at rest. In humans, the average respiratory rate is typically between 12 and 20
breaths per minute at rest.
5. Breathing Patterns: Dogs have a more variable breathing pattern compared to humans. Their
breathing rate can be influenced by factors such as breed, size, and activity level.
The exact cause of asthma is not
fully understood, but it often
involves a combination of
genetic and environmental
factors.
