GRADE 10 English (Sept. 4-5, 2023)

I. LEARNING COMPETENCY/ OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:

a. Use information from news reports, speeches, informative talks, panel discussions, etc. in
everyday conversations and exchanges

II. SUBJECT MATTER

a. Topic: Information from Various Sources


b. Skills: Improving reading comprehension and grammar

a. Reference: English 10 MELCS EN10LC-Ia-11.1


b. Instructional Materials: Visual aids, board and chalk, laptop, TV

III. PROCEDURE

A. Daily Routine

1. Greetings
2. Prayer
3. Checking of Attendance

B. Review
The teacher will introduce herself to the class and ask the students to tell about themselves.

C. Motivation
The teacher will provide students with news articles and ask them to highlight important information.
Then, have them write a summary of the article, incorporating the highlighted details.

The teacher will start the lesson with a game “Guess

D. Presentation

After the activity, the teacher will ask the following questions below to the students.
1. What is the main idea of the news article?

E. Discussion

The teacher will then present the new lesson through powerpoint presentation and teach students
how to analyze news reports, speeches, informative talks, and panel discussions for important
information. Then model how to incorporate this information into everyday conversations by engaging
in role plays or discussions with students. The teacher will also encourage students to continue using
information from news reports, speeches, informative talks, panel discussions, etc. in their daily lives.

F. Generalization
The teacher will ask the following questions:

1. What do you understand about various sources of information?


2. Can you enumerate the various sources of information that we discussed?

G. Application

The teacher will ask students a written reflection on how they have used information from various
sources in their everyday conversations.

H. Assignment:
Write a reflection paper on how you have applied information from news reports, speeches,
informative talks, panel discussions, etc. in a recent conversation you had. Include specific examples
and explain the impact it had on the conversation.

Materials: Speech transcripts or video recordings, evaluation sheets
Instructions:
1. Provide students with different speeches or informative talks.
2. In pairs or small groups, students evaluate the effectiveness of the speech and discuss how the
information can be used in everyday conversations.
3. Each group presents their evaluation and shares their insights with the class.
Rubric:
- Criteria: Evaluation of speech effectiveness, relevance to everyday conversations
- Points: 10 points for evaluation, 5 points for presentation
Assessment questions:
1. How effective was the speech in conveying its message?
2. How can the information from the speech be applied in everyday conversations?

Activity 2: News Report Analysis


Materials: News articles or video clips, paper, pens
Instructions:
1. Provide students with different news articles or video clips.
2. In pairs or small groups, students analyze the information presented and discuss how it can be
applied in everyday conversations.
3. Each group presents their analysis to the class.
Rubric:
- Criteria: Analysis of key information, relevance to everyday conversations
- Points: 10 points for analysis, 5 points for presentation
Assessment questions:
1. How can the information from the news report be applied in everyday conversations?
2. What are the key points you found in the news report?
