1. Why do you need to develop the 21st century skills, particularly the 12 abilities in the 3
categories? How are they important in learning the new literacies namely: Global, Cultural
and Multi-cultural Literacies, Social, Financial, Media and Cyber/Digital, Ecological, Artistic and
Creative, and Critical Literacies?

Developing 21st-century skills is essential because the world is constantly evolving, and individuals need
a diverse set of abilities to thrive in this rapidly changing environment. The abilities are important for
several reasons, especially when it comes to learning and applying new literacies. Adaptability and
Flexibility, In a world marked by technological advancements and changing social dynamics, individuals
need to adapt to new situations and challenges. These skills are crucial for learning new literacies
because they enable individuals to adjust their approach as new information and contexts emerge.
Complex Problem Solving, Learning new literacies often involves tackling intricate issues, whether they
are related to global challenges, cultural understanding, or financial decisions. The ability to analyze and
solve complex problems is vital for effectively navigating these literacies. At all , the 21st-century skills
mentioned above are essential for learning and applying new literacies because they provide the
foundation for adaptability, critical thinking, creativity, effective communication, and responsible
citizenship. These abilities empower individuals to engage with and contribute positively to a diverse and
rapidly changing world, whether they are learning global, cultural, social, financial, media, cyber/digital,
ecological, artistic, or critical literacies.

2. What skills and knowledge do you need to improve in to become multi-culturally literate?

Becoming culturally literate and adept at navigating diverse cultural contexts requires a combination of
skills, knowledge, and attitudes. Here are some key areas to focus on Develop an awareness of your own
cultural biases and assumptions. Cultivate empathy and openness to different cultural perspectives and
worldviews. Learn effective communication skills, including active listening and non-verbal
communication. Familiarize yourself with cultural norms related to communication styles, body
language, and personal space. Learn and/or improve proficiency in relevant languages, even basic
phrases can be very helpful. Understand the nuances of language in different cultural contexts, including
idioms and colloquialisms. Gain knowledge about the major religions and belief systems around the
world. Be respectful and understanding of religious practices and rituals.
Develop the ability to adapt and work effectively in diverse environments. Build cross-cultural problem-
solving skills and conflict resolution skills.Recognize and challenge stereotypes and biases about different
cultures. Avoid making assumptions about individuals based on their cultural background. Becoming
multi-culturally literate is an ongoing journey that involves continuous learning and self-improvement.
It's also important to approach this journey with respect, curiosity, and a commitment to promoting
cultural understanding and harmony in an increasingly interconnected world.
