Historical Background
The 5th Indian Division was ordered to remove the roadblock which barred the way to Keren. So, the 10th Indian Brigade
had to attack the Railway Bumps, followed by the 9th Indian Brigade and engineers companies. On the right , the 29th 9 x10
Indian Brigade had to capture Zeban Minor to secure the right flank of the operation. Once the roadblock area secured,
the engineer companies could work to remove the roadblock. The operation began before dawn on the 25th of March
and was successful in spite of the heavy losses suffered by the 3/5 Mahratta in the attack of East Gate Spur. After that, 10 x4
and despite of the continuous fire of the Italian artillery, the engineers could remove definitively the roadblock. The
road to Keren was at last open.
The stage is set, the battle lines are drawn, and you are in command. The rest is history !
