Historical Background
After the failure of the 29th Indian Brigade to take Mt Zeban and Falestoh Ridge and those of the 10th Indian Brigade on
Brig's Peak and Mt Sanchil, the British troops had to be reorganized. And so, the Italians took advantage of this delay to 9 x6
counter-attack. From the 18th to the 22nd of March, they made seven counter-attacks to recapture the Dologorodoc
Fortress. All these attacks were repelled by Indian troops with grenades and bayonets. On the 19th of March, General
Lorenzini, the spirit of the Italian defense in Keren, was killed in one of these counter-attacks. His death was a severe 10 x7
blow to the morale of the Italian troops.
